A Kept Promise

It was happening...

...

...

Everything was going exactly the way it was. It was like rewatching a scene from a movie. I had seen the future for a reason. I don't know if it was a sign to change it, but I definitely wanted to change it. My vision began to spin, and I felt weightless. I wanted to throw up, to relieve this nauseating feeling in my stomach. My gut was telling me that Neteyam was going to die...if I didn't stay with them.

...

"They've got Spider. We've got to get him." Lo'ak insisted, looking at Neteyam as he held a rifle in his hands. This brought me back to reality. "Come on." He stood up. "Come on, bro. We can't leave him." He looked at us with pleading eyes. Neteyam and I looked at each other for a moment before he turned his head towards the floor, hissing. "Fine." He reluctantly agreed.

"But Elia, go join Tsireya and Tuk. We'll go get Spider." He told me.

"No!" I ended up shouting, seconds later. I blinked a couple of times, processing my actions. I was surprised that I got angry at them. They both flinched. Their ears lowered, telling me that I scared them both. "Nope. I'm coming too. Come on!" I began speed walking past them and towards the ship. "But you're still healing your leg." Neteyam grabbed my arm, tugging on me. "I don't feel the pain. I'm fine." I insisted.

My broken leg was numb. I could only feel my heartbeat where my leg was.

"But..." He started to say, until I cut him off.

"I'm going to come, and you cannot change my mind." Neteyam's ears lowered. The look of worry on his face was evident. "And I know where they're taking Spider." I added, lightly punching Neteyam's arm. "Come on, we don't have time." Lo'ak urged, gesturing to the ship.

"Fine..." He mumbled.

We snuck inside the ship. I was between Lo'ak and Neteyam, making it easier for them to protect me. The alarm bells were ringing in a pattern. It was as if it were telling us that there was death and sadness up ahead if we continued on. A part of me began to think that maybe Spider would be safe with the humans. He was a human too, they wouldn't harm him.

He wouldn't die. And besides that, he was Quaritch's son. I don't think he would intentionally hurt his own child. But then I would feel guilty for leaving him with the cruel humans. We have known him since we were kids. Besides that, I made a promise that we'd save him. I guess saving Spider now would be a good time, but we needed to change his mask, too because I remembered the tracker placed inside their masks. It was a way of locating him.

As I glanced down, I saw people running off towards the moon pool. They were evacuating because the ship was sinking. I held my breath as an armed soldier walked underneath us. He was in a big robot that carried a rifle.

What did we have? Neteyam had a knife, Lo'ak had stolen a corpse's rifle, and I had a bow and a quiver full of arrows, plus my knife.

Not to mention that I had a broken leg from the time when Quaritch and his Ikran yanked me out of the water and threw me on the ship about a few weeks ago. It was a miracle on its own that I was able to climb to the top. It was probably because I was too worried. Everything was numb. My only focus was protecting Neteyam, Lo'ak, and saving Spider.

My whole senses were in a state of panic, warning me that we were no match for them. Not only that, but Lo'ak worried me. He was inexperienced with the rifle. He could injure himself. I had to bear the pain until I knew that all my siblings were safe.
