January 2018

Aurora was about a week past her due date now and she was absolutely miserable. She was so exhausted and just ready for the baby to be born. After changing from her pajamas to a pair of leggings and a large hoodie she went waddling down the stairs and flopped down on the couch as best as she could. Chris was on the lounge chair watching a movie and looked towards Aurora as she groaned in pain. "How are you feeling?"

"Like I want this baby out of me already," she sighed.

"Do you need me to get you anything?" Chris asked.

"Can you just help me lay down?"

"Of course," Chris smiled before standing up and walking over to the couch Aurora was sitting on. He gently grabbed her legs and lifted them onto the couch. He also moved the pillows around until she confirmed she was comfortable. "Anything else?" She looked down bashfully. She knew Chris was always so willing to help her but she still couldn't help but feel embarrassed at times. "Aurora just tell me what you need."

"Can you sit with me?"

He chuckled at her request. He thought it was cute that she still got shy asking him something as simple as that. She had been complaining about the swelling of her feet lately so he lifted her legs up to give himself enough room to sit under them. He placed her legs on his lap and stared to massage her feet making her moan in delight.

After a few minutes Aurora had started to doze off until a shooting pain went through her body. "Ahhhh!" She yelled as her hands went to hold her belly. On instinct, Chris' hands shot up to hold hers.

"What's wrong?" He asked worriedly.

"I think the baby is com-ahhhh!"

"Oh my god. Okay your hospital bag and the carseat are already in your car. I'll call your mom on the way to the hospital." Chris ran up to her room to grab her a pair of shoes for her. He helped her put them on before gently pulling her up off the couch. "I'm gonna go make sure the dogs have water. Try to start walking to the car and then I'll come help you."

Chris quickly went to the kitchen to make sure Loki and Dodger's bowls were full. He turned around when he heard footsteps entering the kitchen. "Aurora what are you doing? I told you to head towards the car."

"My water broke and I needed a rag to go clean the floor."

"Aurora don't worry about that right now."

"Well I'm not going to leave all that on the floor for the dogs to go clean."

"Fine. I'll clean it. Go to the car."

"Chris I'm not going to let you clean my birth fluids off the ground."

"Aurora it's not a big deal. Go."

Aurora finally started making her way to the car as Chris grabbed a rag and ran to clean up the mess. When he was done, he grabbed the keys and caught up with Aurora, who was barely reaching the door. He helped her the rest of the way and finally got her into the car. On the way to the hospital, Chris made sure to call both of their mom's to let them know that Aurora was in labor. Joan assured them that she would meet them there.

It didn't take long for them to get to the hospital and to get Aurora checked in to a room. It had been hours of pain before a nurse came in to check on her a final time. "Well after ten hours in labor you are finally ten centimeters dilated. Are you ready to meet your baby?"

The nurse walked out to get the doctor. Aurora and Chris were both overcome with emotions. Chris leaned down to hug her and kissed her forehead. "You got this," he reassured her.

The doctor came in with the nurses and got everything ready to begin. "Are you ready to start pushing?" The next hour was a blur. All Aurora remembered was the pain she felt and Chris' touch and encouragement next to her. But once she heard the cry that filled the room nothing else mattered. "Congratulations! You are the parents of a beautiful little girl!" The doctor smiled at them.

"You did incredible Aurora."

The nurse came back and handed Aurora their baby. Tears filled both of their eyes as Aurora held their daughter for the first time. The nurses left soon after to give them some privacy. "She's perfect."

"Of course she is, she looks just like you," Chris smiled.

Aurora smiled back at him and gently scooted over on the bed to give Chris some room. He looked at her hesitantly before sitting down next to her. Aurora gently passed the baby over to Chris. He looked at her lovingly for a few moments before he looked up to Aurora. He couldn't help but smile at Aurora as she looked down at their little girl. She felt him looking at her and looked up to meet his gaze. She saw something different in his eyes and immediately started to feel butterflies fill her stomach. She gulped before she started to lean forward. Chris didn't even hesitate before he met her half way and placed his lips on her's. Their kiss only lasted a few seconds but it was filled with so much unspoken love. When they parted, they rested their foreheads against each other. They were broken out of their daze when they heard a soft knock on the door.

After being told to come in, Joan walked in and let out a quiet gasp. She walked straight to the bed and her eyes filled with tears. "Wow. She's beautiful."

"Do you want to hold your granddaughter?" Joan eagerly nodded. "Jasmine this is you grandma," Aurora smiled. Chris passed Jasmine over to Joan, making her tears spill freely.

"Hi Jasmine. I'm your grandma," she sobbed.

Aurora and Chris couldn't be happier. Their family was an unconventional one but it was perfect because Jasmine was perfect.
