Chapter twelve~First Shift

BAYLON'S P.O.V.

I felt like I had to be the happiest guy in the world, I was sitting on the porch holding my mates hand watching the sun go down. It was cathartic. She was the most beautiful girl in the world and she was mine, but did she like me just as much? Did she love me? Maybe that was pushing it I thought, but I Knew what I felt and I believed that it was something like love, but maybe it was just the mates bond. I didnt honesty know, but I knew that she was the one for me and that she had changed my whole way of thinking and being and I needed to speak to my father and tell him how I felt about her and about the whole situation, let him know that I am in fact going to take the alpha role and I have found my mate with Kaylee and I intended on being with her for the rest of my life, if she will let me. I wanted to ask her did she feel anywhere close to same way, I needed to know how she felt. Did she like me like I liked her... or maybe even more? Just then my mother walked out of the screen door onto the porch.
"Baylon, may I speak to you for a moment?" Wow, right on time as usual. "Of course mother. Kaylee, I will be right back. I need to ask you something important okay?" She just nodded her head and smiled. My mother and I went into the house and she guided me into my fathers office. I Wondered what this was all about. Once I sat down I realized that my father was sitting in there as well with his chair turned facing the window. He turned slowly and I started to feel really confused about what was going on. I looked at my mother for answers, but she just smiled at me faintly. Okay..

My father started to speak, "Son, I have noticed that you have changed a lot in the last couple of weeks, but I couldn't figure out what it was that was changing your attitude.... until your mother came to me last night and explained your situation. So, you have found your mate huh?" I was surprised at first, but I guessed my mother probably would've told him about last night. "Well, yes I was gonna tell you tonight father." My mother hugged me so tightly, "Oh I am so overjoyed son! She is a really great girl and I am so happy that she is the one!" My father interrupted her. "Son did you know this when we had our discussion the other night? When I said that you cannot be with her if this battle is not resolved." I frowned at him "Father do you believe that I would give up my mate over this battle for land? If so, with all do respect sir, you need to think again because its not gonna happen. She's my mate, I like her, I may even love her." I said calmly. He looked surprised at my admission. "Son, this isn't just about some land, and if you don't realize that then maybe you aren't the right person to run this pack in the future" My mother ran over to my father to try and calm him." Honey, he is just overreacting because he is in love, he doesn't mean what he is saying."
"I mean every word that I am saying. Father I will do everything in my power to fight and try to get Mr. Bresette his pack back, because he is truly an Alpha, and because I love his daughter, and because I want to protect everyone in our pack from danger. But if we lose this war I will not give up Kaylee, she is my mate and I cannot live without her."
He kinda smiled at me then he said, "Well, I guess we had better win then huh?" He and my mother both laughed! I was beyond confused "Was this some sort of test or something, because if it was I cant tell whether Ive passed or failed." My father stood up and looked out of the window once more," I needed to know that you do get what running this pack means. I can see that if you are willing to risk your life for this girl and for her father that you have finally figured out what I have been trying to teach you all of your life. That This pack is a family and we are dedicated to protecting all that we love and helping all of our neighboring packs if needed. He has been a friend to me for many years even when I wasnt a friend to him, and I am also very pleased that his daughter and my son are mates. It all makes sense to me now." I wondered what that meant, but brushed it off.

"I promise you father whatever you need me to do, I will step up and do for you." He walked over to me and hugged me and kissed my cheek. "You are an Alpha and I am proud of you. Now we will discuss you going away to school... I want you to go. He confused me once again. I threw my hands up in confusion. "I will resume my place as alpha for awhile longer so you can fulfill your dream of going to college. I know that you have worked very hard to get to this point and I would be wrong to begrudge you the satisfaction of going to college for at least four years. You need to give me something in return though son. When you are done You will come and take over as Alpha of this pack?" I smiled.. all That I ever wanted him to do was to acknowledge my dreams and respect me as my own person. I knew all along that this was my destiny I just needed to be heard. "Yes of course father, what else would I do? This is my pack, and this is my home....And we will win. But I could take some courses online..." I said in a by the way voice He chuckled at me and hugged me once again. "That would be awesome." We left the office in a better place and I was so happy for it. But it was weird because our relationship was never that easy.
