A Week Later

After stopping the execution and battles, we were no longer called ryokas. We are now called the saviors of the Soul Society. The head captain, Captain Yamamoto, let us stay for a week while our injuries healed as their gratitude. During the week, I had a private meeting with the Gotei Thirteen, informing them that I was Kyoraku Hana's daughter. As well as admitted that I do have the Dream Sight. Nobody said a word, not even Captain Yamamoto. Afterwards, I've met members of Squad Seven, who some had remembered my mom. Most of them asked about World of The Living. I even showed Yachiru how to make her own bubbles. It really was the best week I have ever had, and I couldn't wait to tell Kisuke and the others about it. However, before I could go home, I decided it was time to officially meet my uncle. Or rather, him deciding to finally meet me by sending his lieutenant over to take me to him. At first, I was nervous, which is why I've been avoiding him. I thought I would be ready when I see him and all the butterflies in my stomach would disappear while walking closer to his home. Sadly, the butterflies didn't go away when we arrived, and he was already outside, waiting for us.

"Welcome back, my little Nanao," Kyoraku Shunsui said to his lieutenant before looking at me with a warm smile. "Follow me."

Nanao and I followed him inside his home and to the backyard with the biggest cherry blossom tree I have ever seen.

"Nice place, right?" Shunsui asks me.

"I guess. Why did you bring me here?" I ask him.

Shunsui looks at Nanao before he speaks, "Nanao, could you leave us alone for a moment. Let us know if her friends are ready to leave." She obeys and leaves us alone. "In case you haven't noticed right off the bat, she's your cousin. My brother's only daughter. He also passed away."

'I didn't notice. I didn't know I had another uncle and cousin. Then again, Kisuke didn't tell me everything, apparently.' I thought to myself.

"So, did you bring me here to look at an old tree?" I ask Shunsui.

He laughs before he speaks, "This tree here was a gift from Hana. As a farewell gift."

"Oh, then it's a nice old tree then..." I awkwardly said. I'm still left with unanswered questions as to why he invited me here.

"Our mom, your grandmother, was very strict with Hana more than she was with me and my brother. At age six, she was given a rare Shinigami gift called Dream Sight. The reason why it's so rare is because only one can possess it. If the Shinigami who possessed the Dream Sight and died of natural causes, a next random candidate will have it after a hundred years."

"A hundred years?" I repeated him. "But it was passed onto me-"

"It's most like because Hana gave you half of her Shinigami powers. Her Zanpakuto included." He cuts me off. "Mom wouldn't let Hana be a Shinigami for either overprotective or selfish reasons. When I became captain, I gave her what she wanted, and she became a member of my squad and then Captain of Squad Seven."

"I heard so many stories from everyone here. She took down twenty strong Hollows at once. She was able to not fall asleep when her Dream Sight wanted to show her the future. She even created a powerful storm as her Bankai. She was truly amazing." I praised my mom, but my last sentence made me sound disappointed. It wasn't the fact that she was gone and that I couldn't meet her. It was a reminder of how strong she was compared to me.

"Yeah, she truly was," Shunsui walks over to the tree and places his hand on the tree. "If only I had listened carefully to her warning."

"What warning?" I ask him.

Shunsui turns to sit down on the ground and lends his back on the tree. He released a comforting sigh. Then he waved his hand for me to join him, and I did.
