We finally stopped. We was at a parking lot in front of an hotel, that was in another state or two from where we came from. "Where are we?" I broke the silence. We was driving for two- three hours and it was very quiet. So quiet I fell asleep for most of the ride. "Aria-" I quickly interrupted him because he mess up my name. "it's María." He looks back at me because i'm already looking at him. " I know. Aria was a nickname I wanted to call you" " No." I snap at him in responds. He sighs but doesn't protest. " fine." He says in a low tone, that can be mistake for a whisper.
An hour later. " what's your name?" I asked after debating if I should or not for theses past two weeks. My dad calls him "león" which means lion in Spanish. Although my dad wasn't Spanish he picked up on it quickly. My mother and I used to speak Spanish to each other, so he wouldn't understand. " león" he teases and I look at him in shock. " Do you even know what that means?" He quickly recovers from his little smile and looks at me terrified. " It doesn't mean Lion?" I smile at him and he walks away to get something to drink. "that wasn't funny and are you hungry?"
I shook my head no. " you need to eat. Please? You didn't even get to finish your food." I stay quiet and don't respond. Ive been sitting on this small couch for 40 minutes. I didn't want to get up. " I'll tell you my name, only if I can put some food in you? por favor." I look at him and finally nod slowly. He walk towards me but stopped once I put my hand out. " I can walk." I didn't wanna be carried and wanted to walk more after two weeks of barely walking.
