Nine years ago: College
Like every good unrequited love story, Maahi too felt she was looking at a world from the outside. A world never really within her reach.
She knew Aarush was in love with his longtime high school girlfriend Leela. They were the old school, eternally in love couple that everyone in college thought would definitely end up together. It was blatantly obvious.
Their love was never the loud sort though. It was quiet and steady. But it was always very clear for the world to witness easily.
Maahi would make her way to class after lunch break and she would see them both sitting, cross-legged under the tree, talking to each other. He would sit with his knees touching hers lightly and she would listen to his stories, her lovely eyes responding to every twist and turn.
Even a brief glimpse of a mundane lunch break between the two was enough for Maahi to know that she should never hope to even imagine being with him.
If only her heart would bother to listen.
