AND THEN the party got started. Jamie appointed herself as our bubbly host. She was literally the life of our party. May kasama pa ngang dance number. Grabe ang energy niya, ang hirap tapatan!

"That was just the appetizer!" sabi ni Jamie matapos makakuha ng 95 na score sa kinanta. Alistair and I clapped for her while Loki was not even amused. Saktong dumating ang in-order naming food and drinks. Inilapag ang mga 'yon sa table. "Nagutom ako ro'n, ah! Kain muna tayo!"

We got our own can of soda, and grabbed some fries and nachos. The videoke kept on flashing clips of the endless cerulean horizon and white sands from the beach as if it was inviting us to go there. During the school break, maybe we could.

"Before we start singing our hearts out," Jamie licked the cheese powder off her fingers, "let's get to know more about each other! We'll be working in the club for months kaya mabuti nang mas makilala natin ang isa't isa."

Now that's a good idea. Among the three of them, I knew Alistair the most. The jury's still out, I would say.

"But!" She held up her right hand. "Masyadong boring kung magse-share lang tayo kung sino tayo o kung ano-ano ang likes and dislikes natin. Let's put a twist in this game!"

I furrowed my brows. "What twist?"

"Let's do it through two truths and a lie! Obvious sa name ng game kung paano laruin 'yon, 'no? Very fitting sa 'tin kasi detective club tayo. It's a deduction game! Each of us will share three things. Two of them must be true while the other one must be an outright lie. Game?"

I was totally fine with the common "tell me about yourself." That was simple and straightforward. But she wanted to spice things up, so here we went. Alistair knew me the best among them, so there was little to nothing that he would not have known about me.

"Dahil ako ang nakaisip, ako na ang mag-start!" sabi ni Jamie. Her forefinger pressed on her lips. "Ano ba'ng pwede kong i-share? Alam n'yo naman na theater actress ako, 'di ba? Hmmm . . . First, I'm a Swiftie—Reputation rocks! Second, I love matcha—mapa-milk tea man o latte. And third, I've had a boyfriend before. So which one is the lie and which are the truths?"

Tama nga siya. Deduction game nga ito. What we knew about each other was so limited, we had to rely on our educated guess or even gut feeling to see if any of the mentioned items fit our personalities. Dito rin mate-test ang pagka-judgmental namin. Mukha bang mahilig siya ro'n? Magagawa ba niya 'yon?

In Jamie's case, let me see. Her being a Swiftie . . . Taylor Swift is popular nowadays so it would not be surprising if Jamie was a fan of her. Not only her, but probably majority of students in Clark High. Even my classmates at St. Bartholomew High did. Even I was listening to Taylor's songs. I would be shocked if Jamie was not. So that was one truth.
