"I wasn't expecting you in the office today" Nicholas said from behind Aurora's desk with Taylor as she casually walked into the bullpen with her boss-boyfriend-boss holding a coffee from their new favourite morning café - Stantini's

"you weren't?" Aurora said moving to the entrance of her desk "also why are you stood by my desk you weird men?"

"um " Taylor said quickly looking to Nicholas for answers "What was that Agent Hotchner? You need to speak to Aurora in your office?" he faked staining to listen to the man stood only a foot away from him then smiled at her

"alright" she said walking closer to the men who had now formed a wall in front of her "what the hell is going on? What you've picked today to play a horrendous prank on me? what the hell is wrong with you!"

"Rori!" Nicholas said holding her shoulders "Just remember that we love you - and this isn't some sick prank" he let her go as she walked around the desk where she saw a vase of flowers sat on the floor "now I know it is strange that they are on the floor but we didn't know where else to put them when we heard your voice we sort of scrambled and then we decided to put them on the floor"

"no you decided on the floor" Taylor interjected "I was going more for under Spencer's desk you never would have expected that"

she lifted up the large glass vase full of white lilies revealing a card addressed to her. Upon tearing it open she saw a handwritten letter

My dearest Aurora,

I send my deepest condolences on this day which I know must be having a damning effect on your heart. Your mother's passing affected us all - I hope to see you at my ball this weekend

your father (whether you like it or not)

"Putain de connard" she whispered softly dropping the card into the rubbish bin "don't ever keep something like this from me - please" she said turning to Nicholas and Taylor with a pleading look in her eyes

"what did she say?" Aaron whispered to Nicholas after he agreed and they both began walking up the stairs to both of their offices

"she called her father a fucking asshole" Nicholas replied, a smile grazing his features "which he is - he sent her those flowers to enforce his power over her. And on the anniversary of her mother's death too" his face then turned cold as he turned to Aaron and walked inside of Aaron's office behind him

"she didn't tell me that her mother died today" Aaron said setting his brown leather briefcase - a present Aurora got for his anniversary of joining the BAU, an expensive Italian leather with his initials monogrammed into it with gold adorning the leather- and sitting at his desk

"I didn't think she would come into work today - she has more than enough holiday days she could take" Nicholas said "Taylor and I are going to the ball with her this weekend and I know she has taken a liking to you - I blame her obvious attraction to older men - so I wanted to ask if you wanted to come to the ball as well, I have an extra invite well it's a plus one but plus one doesn't exactly mean date ... I'm going to shut up mow "

"do you think my presence would be appreciated?" Aaron said looking over the manila folder he had picked up "if so then yes I would but if you don't think I would add anything valuable I don't need too go"

"so that's settled" he said with a smile as he stood  "the dress code is black tie - I will pick you up at 7 o'clock"

as soon as Nicholas had left and the door was closed Aaron whispered "god it's like I'm going on a date with my boss" as he picked up the folder once more

"well  now you know how I feel" Aurora's French accent filled the room as she walked further into the centre of the room "hi Aaron, how are you?"

"I'm okay sweetheart how are you?" he said with a smile, placing the folder down on his desk and walking over to her
