The Key That Led Me to You

Part 7

Caleb's POV

I walk into the house. Things are not okay. I keep pretending they are. It won't be long before Grace catches on. What will I do then? Should I tell her the truth. I can't it would destroy her.

I walk upstairs towards her room. I need to check up on her. I open the door. There she sits on the bed. Her beautiful dark hair is messy. Looks like she had a nap before I came.

When her brown eyes meet mine. I felt myself smile. She's really pretty. I don't know why she dated Dean. He was a worthless piece of shit. Because of him she can't even leave the house.

"Caleb I need to talk to you."[Grace]

I walk over to her and sit beside her. I face her giving her all my attention.

"Keinan hasn't texted, called, or met me in the last five days. Where is he? What's going on?"[Grace]

I knew she'd catch on but, not this soon. I thought I had more time. What do I say?

"Um nothing he's probably just busy."[Caleb]

"I knew I couldn't trust you. Your lying. I know something's wrong. If you don't tell me the truth. I'll leave. I will run away."[Grace]

Her harsh words shocked me. How could I ask her to trust me if I wasn't telling her the truth. I really only wanted to be someone she could depend on like she did with Keinan. I wanted to be someone special in her life. Now that I got involved with her. I just can't leave her.

"Alright I'll tell you. So please just trust me."[Caleb]

"Where's Keinan. Why isn't he responding  to any of my messages."[Grace]

"I don't know. Keinan came to school for the first two days. Then he stopped coming. I went to his house but, his mom said he hasn't been home for a while. You know a lot of people started targeting him too. But, what made him lose it was you."[Caleb]

"Me?"[Grace]

"Yeah. People have been vandalising your locker. There's pictures in the hallways of you. With dirty words on it. Even if you weren't there at school. People still found a way to sabotage you by all means. Keinan got into a physical altercation with this guy who called you a slut in front of the whole school. "[Caleb]

"What?"[Grace]

"Apparently Keinan beat the guy really badly. Keinan's whole image got ruined. He's not the top student anymore. In fact they kicked him out of the x club. Apparently they made Dean the new leader."[Caleb]

"Dean?"[Grace]

"Dean's been pulling some strings. He's got a lot of people on his side. He's the one who made the group chat in the first place."[Caleb]

"What does he get from all this?"[Grace]

"I think he wants to pull you out of hiding. He's already ruined Keinan. He's coming for you next. You have to be extra cautious. I'm still trying to find some dirt on him. Until then you have to stay here hidden."

"What about Keinan?"[Grace]

"My top priority is you. This is what Keinan would have wanted. We just have to hope he's safe for now."[Caleb]

She doesn't speak anymore. Her eyes wonder off to the side. She looks at the floor.

Her body slowly starts shaking. I hear her breath get heavy. Her hands move up toward her face. She hides her face in her hands. I start to hear sobs.

She was crying. I'm sure she had kept it in for a while now. I put a hand on her back. I start to gently rub her back in attempt to calm her.

If I ever saw Dean. I'd kill that bastard. A guy like that doesn't deserve to live. Her sobs get louder. My heart breaks as her tears spill out her eyes.

Her head leans onto me. I pull her in closer. leting her rest her body and head on my chest. I kept this secure hold on her until her crying stopped.

I didn't want to let go though. I call out her name. She doesn't respond. I call her name again. But still no response. I look down to see her eyes shut. Her chest rising and falling at a steady pace.

I chuckle. She ended up falling asleep on me. I slowly move her back and lay her down. She's been really stressed lately.

She lays there so perfectly. She's so peaceful when she sleeps. But, she's the complete opposite when she's awake. I chuckle. She's so stubborn and always says what on my mind.

I move some strands of hair off her face. I slowly get up. Before leaving her room I made sure to plug in her nightlight.

I go to my room and sit on my bed. Keinan's been off the chart. I don't know where he could be. He hasn't returned any of my calls or Grace's. He isn't at home. I'm worried that he's gotten himself into trouble.

I still need to find something on Dean. Something that will leave him powerless. For now though I need to rest and clear my head.
