Chapter 25

Fate

Nang makilala ko si Amnesia Ghost. Akala ko doon na magwawakas ang kadiliman ng aking mundo. Ngunit... mas may ididilim pala ito.

The month of April, day 19.

We place a tent on the rooftop to stargaze. Ivan also helped us with the string lights. But he went home as soon as we were done and settled with everything. This is our third date for this month.

I was strumming a guitar as she listened and brightened the night with her sweet smile while her eyes stared into mine.

She clapped her hands out of joy and cheered after I serenaded her with a song.

"Galing! Isa pa nga!"

I only smiled at her. Gabi na kaya binaba ko ang gitara sa gilid.

"Oh? Ba't ka tumigil?"

I went inside to get a blanket as she watched me curiously anticipating my every move. Nakaupo kami sa labas ng tent with a lamp in front for us to see. And some strings of lights covered outside and also inside our tent to brighten the place. When I went out, I wrapped her body inside a blanket and hugged her tightly from behind. I leaned my chin on her shoulder.

We stayed like that for hours. Spending quality time with each other. When suddenly a firefly flew and dance across the lamp. Na parang hindi sapat ang liwanag at kinang niya kaya naiinggit siya sa liwanag nito. We just stared at it and silently adore its own light.

"Sabi nila... pag namatay daw yung mga mahal natin sa buhay they turned into a butterfly so they could visit their loved ones whenever they missed them... Do you think it's true?" maya-maya'y tanong ni Amnesia Ghost.

Napaisip ako at tinitigan nang maigi ang alitaptap. Nakadapo na ito ngayon sa ulo ng lampara. Kumikislap-kislap.

"Kung totoo yan, hindi ko alam kung si Lola o Mama ang alitaptap na 'yan."

Nilingon niya ako. Seryoso siya. Binabasa gamit ang mga mata kung anong tunay kong nararamdaman.

"Namimiss mo sila?"

Nagkatitigan kami. Tinitigan ko ang mga mata niyang nangungusap. Kumikislap sa gitna ng dilim dahil sa reflections ng mga ilaw sa paligid namin.

"Hindi ko sila iniisip ngayon. Namimiss ko sila pero hindi na tulad noon... masaya ako ngayon. Masaya ako dahil kasama kita. Wala akong ibang iniisip dahil nandyan ka." seryosong sagot ko.

Napawi ang kunot ng kaniyang noo saka napalitan ng matamis na ngiti.

"Ako rin!" masayang tugon niya sabay yakap sa leeg ko.
