With my belongings in tow, I didn't bother to dispute and just did what he instructed.

I climbed into my vehicle and let out a long sigh.

I'd never felt so outraged and aroused in my life.

I murmured, hoarse and unfamiliar to my ears. I began to pack my hair which was now scattered.

My lips were still throbbing from the kiss.

His lips felt wonderful when they met mine and I'd been in desperate need of that for quite some time.

Yet I got confused the more. I kept asking myself the same question. Did Mark have feelings for me?

The way Derrick drove the car was heartstopping. Everything about him was alive!

He had taken me to a posh Italian restaurant that she couldn't pronounce.

He had already asked me a few questions when we were in the car but I hadn't bothered to answer them.

He'd even gone so far as to order for me as if he also believed I couldn't do it herself.

I wasn't exactly pleasant to be around.

I was lost. I did nothing other than poke my food with my fork and staring vacantly off into space when the food

arrived.

He brought me back to reality by asking, "What happened?"

Looking at him, Mary blinked twice.

"Hmm? I couldn't catch that. What did you say again?."

"I must admit you changed. You used to be the chatter but today you don't say much. And you haven't even taken a bite out of your meal? Tell me what's happening?" pointing to her plate, he said

I managed to put up an insincere smile before taking a big chunk of the food just to satisfy his curiosity and assure him that everything was OK.

She pretended to be irritated by the deliciousness of the meal.

Everything was delicious, but Mark's kisses seemed to have taken away her appetite.

She tried all she could not stare far off in a way that would make him suspect something.

"Yum, this is nice," I said, my smile reaching her eyes but not quite.

But he rolled his eyes and seemed to spot my deception right away.

"Talk to me, has Mark done anything to you? I find it insulting that I've invited you out to supper but you've remained silent. I could have been doing a million other things, but I decided to be with you instead."

I felt awful during his rage because he was completely correct.

But how was she expected to seem normal, as if Mark? hadn't just kissed her to death an hour before?

My heartbeat was still racing wildly, and the tingling feeling on her swollen-looking lips continued to tease her.

But why had he kissed me in the first place, and then looked so perplexed by it? It was I, after all, who should have been perplexed.

Derrick sat back in his chair. "I'm sorry, but this isn't going to work out. I'd like to request a check."

A waiter hurried to our table when he yelled. Derrick received the check, which he cashed.

Then got up from his seat, tossed his napkin on the table, and stormed out of the room in long, angry strides.

I didn't spend any time following in his footsteps.
