The Alpha and the Beta

Chapter 5 - Getting ready

(Landon’s *POV*)

I stood there watching Zoey drive away. I couldn’t believe I was right. It was her, not that I thought my wolf was wrong, but I had a few doubts.

Told you so!  My wolf chimed in at me. I had to smile at him. I have always had to keep her just out of reach because of Ryan. Though we were all friends, he was my Beta and I really didn’t want to piss him off. I knew this was bad enough, but I was happy it really was her.  I turned around when her car was no longer in my site. I paced to my car to find Ryan and Brad waiting there.

“Hey.”  I said to them as I dug the keys to my car out of my pocket.

“Strange day huh?” Brad said smiling. I nodded. I had to keep my mouth shut. Zoey didn’t want anyone knowing just yet but I was going to do everything in my power to keep her happy. And even though I really want to say hey guess what your sisters my mate, just to screw with Ryan; I really did kind of enjoy this little game she had me playing. All day I had that damn song ‘Dirty little secret’ stuck in my head.  I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out and looked at the text from Amanda. ‘I know your secret.’ Was all it read.  I quickly text her back, ‘what’s that?”

I unlocked my car and the three of us piled in.  I started the car and put my phone in the center console. Ryan looked at me like he was waiting on me to tell him something, but I knew I wasn’t at liberty to discuss what I know he wants to know just yet so I took a different approach.

“Problem?” I asked him amusement spread on my face.

He turned his head slowly to face me. He search my face for something I knew he wasn’t going to find. I couldn’t help but smile at him while I waited for his answer. “No, not with you at the moment.” He laughed. I nodded. As I started to back out my phone went off again. I picked it up and read another text. ‘Don’t worry your secrets safe with me. I’m sworn to keep my mouth shut but doesn’t mean I’m not gonna help along the way. :-) ‘I couldn’t help but laugh. I sent back a quick ‘how’d you find out?’ then went back to driving.  She finally text back after I had dropped them off at Ryan’s house. Zoey's car wasn’t there so there was no point in me sticking around right now. Although I was having a hard time not searching her out. I flipped my phone open and read the message. ‘Dude, Really? She’s my BF! Did you really think I’m not gonna notice when she starts acting a little weird? Don’t worry, I'm on your side here’ I sent back ‘ok just keep the secret. I don’t really wanna piss her off. See you tonight.’

When I pulled in to my drive I shut the engine off and sat there. I kept thinking about the day. I wasn’t expecting Zoey to go off on Holly like that. I had tried to shove her off as nicely as I could but before I had the chance to tell her to shove off; she was covered in Zoey’s cake. I laughed at the thought. I couldn’t believe my quiet reserved mate went off like that. I know she is struggling with the thought of a mate but I couldn’t help but feel proud of her for standing her ground.

Ever since that fight with the rouges she has been quiet. She trained more than most of the guys in the pack, and she was good. I had spent a lot of time with her over the last 4 years. I had fought by her side and she was fearless when faced with danger. But now she seemed shy and timid at the best of times. It was about 4 months ago after I had turned 18 that I noticed something. I was hanging out with her more and more every day, and my wolf was happy about this. I remember almost being drawn to her at one point. I had known she was my mate for about 3 months now. I remembered the day I realized it.

I was at her place waiting on Ryan; we had been playing need for speed. I had seen the concentration on her face, intent on beating me. I threw the race just to make her smile. I pretended to pout when she laid a light touch on my shoulder, its sent sparks up my arm and settled on my core. My wolf howled in my head. She teased me ‘awe big bad alpha got beat by a girl’ I couldn’t help it when I tackled her. I just wanted her to touch me again. I gained control of my wolf within seconds and started tickling her. Her laughter filled my head and every sence that I had. I was in heaven with her there playing a silly game with me. That was until Ryan walked in. I would have ignored him but she jumped up too fast for me to get a good hold on her.
