I loved having super senses. I could see everyone in the room and no one was even paying attention to the stairs. So I started making my way slowly down them with one hand on the railing. My eyes scanned the room on the second step and caught a hold of only one set of eyes watching the steps. Landon’s. I watched as his eyes changed from blue to black back to blue by the time I reached the 5th step. I watched his eyes narrow bit. He bit his bottom lip slightly as he watched me take the next 2 steps. I flashed him my best smile, just so test the waters. I could hear a low growl come from him, as he shook his head and smiled back. After about half the staircase I started to sense more eyes on me. As I reluctantly peeled my eyes from him and looked around, I noticed pretty much everyone in the room was now focused on me. I took each step slow making sure not to fall. My father made his way to the bottom of the steps to meet me. He held out his hand and I took it gratefully, he tucked my hand around his arm. I know if I heard the low growl from somewhere behind me I know he did too, but we both ignored it.
“Happy birthday sweetie.” He said.
“Thanks dad.” I said.
“Well if your mate is here, your gonna give him hell in that dress. Serves him right anyway.” He said as he made our way to our family.
A chorus of happy birthdays from the adults came my way as we passed. I smiled and thanked them politely. By the time we reached my mom and sister my mom had been crying. “Oh honey you look beautif-f-ful.” She sniffled at me crushing me in a hug.
“Alright, we will only hold you up for a moment, then you can get back to your friends.” My mom said.
“ Is this the birthday girl?” I heard a voice behind me say.
I knew that voice; his scent was fimilure but off. I turned to see only to be shocked by the alpha standing there smiling at me. I couldn’t help but smile back at him. Well no wonder he smelled familure.
“Yes sir.” I almost whispered at him.
“Well Happy birthday. I won’t hold you up any longer go enjoy your party.” He said.
“Thank you” I half laughed.
He turned to my parents before speaking again. “So I’ll see you lot later tonight at the clearing.”
I looked at them all as they nodded. “See you then Alpha.” My mom said. And he turned and walked away.
“There’s a pack meeting tonight?” I asked.
“Nope, Just a run for the adults. What did you think we were going to stay here all night? You’re crazy if you think you need supervision. We will be heading out in about an hour.” My dad chuckled at me. I nodded.
For the next hour I stood with my parents as I was happy birthday’d to death. I never wanted to hear those words again. As everyone made their way through to us I started to get more and more antsy. I had spoken to what seemed like everyone in the room but one. I knew he was here though I could smell him. If he was going to ignore me then fine. If he wants to play hard ball I can play too! So I playfully flirted with just about every guy that came to talk to me. I knew my mom knew I had found my mate but she never said a word. Every so often when I would laugh at something some guy would say. I would lay my hand gently on their arm and say something sweet to them. I would drop my hand when I heard the low warning growl from somewhere in the room. So I knew he was watching. When everyone had apparently had their fill of talking with me and the party really started to pick up, Landon made his way through the crowd. I pretended I didn’t see him and turned to face my family and my friends. I started talking with them. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I felt his warm hand touch my bare lower back. Even though I expected him I still wasn’t used to the sensations he sent through my body. I sucked in a quick breath and closed my eyes as I felt his breath in my ear.
