I woke up the next morning smiling. I mean literally smiling. It's how I went to sleep and I guess it just never went away. I rolled over and stared at the ceiling. I couldn't get the smile of my face. Bently James asked me out on a date. How crazy is that?! I let out a giggle. Yes, giggled. I never giggle.
I smiled all the way down stairs and into the living room.
"What are you so happy about?" My mom asked.
"It's just a really good day." I answered.
"It's 8:00 in the morning. I'm surprised you slept this late. Aren't you going to go running?"
"Yep. I just have to find my sweats."
"Why are you looking in here?"
"I don't know." I said looking around the room.
She got up off the couch and put her hand on my forehead. "Are you feeling alright? You are acting a little loopy."
"I feel fine mom. Just happy." I sang as I went to the laundry room.
I found the sweat pants I wanted and grabbed a tank top. Once I was dressed, I walked out the door and started jogging. I don't usually start running hard until I get to the end of the block.
"Hey neighbor." Tyler said from the end of the sidewalk. "Mind if I join you?"
I glanced at him. Not even him and his stupidity could bring me down today.
"Nope." I said popping the P.
He raised his eyebrows in surprise, but fell in to step with me. One thing good about Tyler is that he is the most athletic of his brothers. He's the only one who can keep up with me and not have a hard time.
"So...you're in a good mood?" He asked hesitantly.
"Very good mood." I corrected him.
"Would care to explain why?"
"Because I'm going on a date with your brother tonight." I smiled just thinking about it.
"What?!" Tyler yelled. He stopped in the middle of the street and I just passed him up. I don't care if he comes or not.
A minute later I heard his footsteps behind me. "Ebony, are you kidding me right now?"
"Why would I joke about this?"
"You can't go on a date with Bently!"
"Who are you to tell me who I can and can't date?"
"I'm Bently's brother. I'm the one that sees the real him every single day. He's not the guy you think he is Eb." He was being serious, which was rare.
"Listen I appriciate your concern, but I'm a big girl and I can make these choices on my own."
"You're making a mistake Ebony."
"How?" I asked. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about for once. So why not hear him out?
"I can't really explain it. I just know how he is. I mean you think I'm a jerk and stuff, but I'm not really that bad. I just do it because I like to see you annoyed. Bently is a jerk all the time." He explained.
I stopped running and stared at him. "Bently is a jerk? Bently?"
"Yes! See you don't even believe me!"
"That's because he has never done one jerky thing. He's always really nice around me." Tyler's eyes were pleading. I felt like I should hug him, and I never want to hug Tyler. "Why don't you want me to go on this date?"
He looked away. "I can't tell you."
"Why?"
"I just can't okay! You know what? It doesn't even matter. Do what you want. I'm going back home."
I watched as he turned and jogged away. I'm so confused. Why didn't Tyler want me to go on a date with Bently? Was he jealous? I'm pretty sure Tyler only wants one thing from me. Did he mean that Bently only wanted it too? Maybe I should go find out.
I ran around the block and stopped in front of his house. I could see him in the backyard, so I just walked in the fence.
"Hey." I said.
He stood up and smiled at me. "Hey."
Whoa that's not Tyler.
"Dude you look so much like Tyler from the back." I told Bently.
He laughed. "Do you want me to be Tyler?"
"No! It's just that you look like him. A lot."
"I'm pretty sure HE looks like ME."
"Well I guess that would be true since you're the oldest and all." I sighed.
"Exactly."
The back door opened and Adam and Tyler came out. They were laughing about something. When Tyler saw me his smile widened. I guess whatever was bothering him, he was over.
"Hey baby! Back so soon?" He asked.
Oh yeah. He was over it. " Yeah, I'm back, but I was just leaving."
"Why?" Bently asked. "You can stay. Just ignore Tyler."
I laughed. "That's impossible, and I'm all sweaty and stuff."
"So are we." Adam said.
"Yeah, maybe if you're lucky I'll take my shirt off so you can look at my awesome body." Tyler told me smiling.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm going to get cleaned up. I'll see you tonight." I told Bently.
He waved and I saw Tyler's smile falter a little. I'm done trying to figure out what's wrong with him. He's a conceded jerk.
"Ok." He smiled.
Oh wait! I turned back around. "What should I wear? Dressy or casual?"
"Casual is fine." He laughed.
"Okay, cool. I'll see you later."
"Bye Ebony."
I sighed. What's it mean when you get chills when a guy says your name? Love maybe? I don't know. All I know is that I couldn't be happier.
