And now for the big reveal, the reason why Eggman brought Althea is because of him finding special documents of some kind........

....Documents written by his grandfather Gerald Robotnik!

Yep. That's right.

But now you might be wondering why?

WELL......

Back when Project Shadow was still in research, Gerald Robotnik was coming up with ways he could potentially find the cure for Maria's disease. So he traveled down to Earth hoping he could find something there once he had made a prototype base. He found some ancient Echidna runes from a mural speaking of how they had an alliance with another ancient civilization: The Axolotl Tribe. According to the mural, it says that during a harsh war where times were tragic (people were getting sick, and warriors were being injured), the Echidna warriors encountered the Axolotls, a pacifist and tranquil civilization, who had healing powers. They used their essence to help the Echidnas, and from then on, would have a steady alliance with the Echidnas and trade with one another.

Of course, when the professor found out about the Axolotls, he simply had to find out where they were and to ask if one of them may help him. Luckily, Gerald managed to find the Axolotl Tribe's coordinates due to a map of their home that the Echidnas wrote when they needed their help in emergencies. He took a photo of it excited that he'll be able to find an Axolotl, but then made the realization that this was an ancient civilization, meaning that they may have went extinct. But despite that, he still kept the photo recorded on a document.

Now for those who have followed the story of Sonic Adventure 2, we know that as a child, Eggman looked up to his grandfather and wanted to be like him. Now, back to this fanon lore: Due to his idolization of his grandfather, he stumbled upon Gerald's documentations and saw the Axolotl ruins. Since he didn't want what happened to Maria to happen to him potentially, he decided he should look for one on the planet Mobius. This takes place when he's first trying to take over Mobius and building bases and what-not, and he found the Axolotl Tribe. Surprisingly, they were still alive, but because they survived due to living in their underwater villages/cities.

So Eggman decided he should take one with him, but if he took an adult Axolotl, he would probably be screwed or dead, leading to him trying to find a egg, so he could raise it to serve him. In the Axolotl Tribe (at least what I wrote), the mothers swim into the underwater plant garden they planted and basically leave their kids there for a while giving their children some time to hatch (so that way their moms can pick them up outside of their eggs). Well, Althea was basically taken from one of the leaves her little egg was on, and was brought to Eggman's lair (in a little tank with rocks, plants, and a little cave). And as much as Eggman didn't want to show too much sympathy for her (to keep his evil overlord persona), he did have a soft spot for her and found her adorable.
