Hiccup and I worked tirelessly all night long.
I cut and stitched and revised until I thought my fingers would fall off, eventually cutting the last sinew thread and laying it out on my bedroom floor. I wiggled it about in order to get a better Idea of the mechanism, then finally I rolled up my work and dashed out of the house.
I made it back to the smithy at about three in the morning, the chill of the air broke me out in goose bumps as I flung myself into the hot atmosphere of the forge. Hiccup immediately snatched the fin from my hand and unrolled it allowing the prongs to slip easily into the boning canals I put in the design. He opened it and we both reveled at our work before he snapped it shut and we both slouched, utterly drained. I yawned loudly and Hiccup followed suit.
"Bed?" I suggested, quietly.
"Yeah." Hiccup agreed.
We tromped our way back though the village and up to our house without a word spoken between us. I shoved open the door and nearly tripped over the threshold but I regained my footing just in time. I stumbled blindly through the living room and kitchen, until I made it to stairs, Hiccup closed the door quietly and followed my path through the house. I slowly ascended the stairs practically crawling on my hands and knees until we made it up I got to my feet and yawned again.
"Night, Hiccup."
"See you bright and early Iddy." We both groaned at that.
I pushed my forehead against the door and forced it open, I walked silently to my bedside and flopped onto it. I began to hum a lullaby I had heard Gobber and my father whistle, or sing in the past to myself as I drifted off to sleep.
"I'll swim and sail on savage seas..."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I groaned into my pillow as light began to peak over the horizon.
"Rise and shine, Iddy." Oh hell no
"How about I rise and hit you in the face, Hic " I replied grumpily.
"First off you know I hate that nickname-" I cut him off before he could make his second point.
"That's why I used it stupid."
"What happened to 'anything to get that dragon back in the air'." I opened my mouth to retort but then closed it and crossed my arms.
"Thought so." Hiccup said triumphantly.
"I hate it when you guilt me into things."
"That's why I did it dummy." He replied easily
"ha ha" I said sarcastically as I swung my legs over the side of the bed.
"Well you're dressed so here's your breakfast, let's go." He tossed me a piece of bread and started for the door.
"You're way too energized at this hour."

We stopped by the fish rejects and filled half a basket before deciding that they should probably add some of their own rations to the mix.
Eventually after taking the long route around the outskirts of the village. We came to the cove it was likely eight in the morning and I was loosing patience with every little thing, though the thought of seeing my friend again quelled any squalls that my brain threatened to pick up.
Finally we stumbled into the cove, lugging the bulbous basket of fish along with us.
Toothless almost immediately appeared looking slightly agitated. I looked over his shoulder and saw Scoot hadn't moved from his position by the pond.My heart dropped into my stomach. I grabbed as many fish as my arms could carry and threw myself toward my dragon. I was just about to fall over in a dead faint from worry, when I saw his tongue hanging out of his mouth and he was snoring louder than my father after the celebrations on snoggletog. He looked like an overgrown cat and my heart melted just a little bit.
I let the fish fall to the ground with a loud slapping sound, he didn't react much so I lay in front of him and began tickling his nose. He wiggled and groaned before finally opening one of his big eyes and...groaning again.
"Yeah, yeah I'm not a morning person either, but I'm happy to see you bud."
"HEY, that's my line." Hiccup called from over his shoulder, where he was straddling Toothless' tail.
"Yeah well 'bud' is pretty universal-" Scoot licked my face, cutting me off.
"Fine I'll just call you scoot." He warbled at that.
"Here, eat." I offered up the fish, shoving in front of his white nose.
I should have known not to let my brother alone cause the next thing I know, while I'm watching Scoot scoop up the last of his breakfast, Hiccup starts screaming, at first in fear then in triumph. I looked up and he was absolutely nowhere to be found, I looked up to the sky and there he was, looking like the twins in a boar pit only, midair and on the back end of a very peeved dragon.
Eventually after my mouth falls agape and Scoot starts making noises that almost sound like suppressed giggling, they fly back down to the pond and Toothless, seeming having had enough flicked Hiccup into the water before loosing control and falling in himself. The four of us broke into bouts of laughter, ranging from sarcastically amused to completely ecstatic. The two of them crawled out of the water and flopped onto the ground, breathing hard. I rolled my eyes and looked down at Scoot.
"Lemme see the stitches."
He reluctantly rolled over to his side thankfully the bandages are still relatively clean, no pus or blood which means that the wound is likely not infected and the bloodless has been cut down exponentially. Just to make sure I pulled back the cloth to reveal an almost healed wound.
"Hey in a couple days I'll be able to take out these stitches and you will be able to get back to flying."
I retied the bandage just in case and he rolled back over. He snuffled at my hand and I lifted it tentatively. He slowly leaned forward before resting his nose in my palm. I was filled with contentment, he trusted me. We were friends I liked it. Sure he had allowed me to clean and doctor his wounds, went through immense pain to let me, but that had been out of necessity, you didn't have to like nurses so long as they did the job right. This felt more intimate, more chosen, it wasn't one sided. I had a friend.
