The DUFF... a fanfic adaptation

By the time you got out of the cab, you just knew you had to get to your tub and cleanse your entire body from everything that just happened from your so-called date with Troy.

Troy... the mere thought of his name alone makes you want to hit something. He really had you wrapped around his finger, believing everyhting he said but only up to the point when he started babbling about wanting to invite Maegan and Halsey to his show.

All this time you thought he saw you for who you were but it was all a lie. He wanted to be friends with you so he could get to what he truly wanted... a chance with your besties. If he knew that you're not in good terms with the girls, would he have invited you to still spend time with him tonight? Probably not.

You're preparing the tub with lavender and citrus scented bath bombs before slipping in your fluffy robe. Just when you were about to dip in, your phone buzzes by the sink counter with Jungkook's name rhythmically flashing on the screen.

You don't know why but you suddenly felt so happy to hear from him. After snatching your phone, you head back in your bedroom to check if he was home. You know that window you sealed off to avoid seeing Jungkook when you were in middle school? It's now officially accesible after he came by one time to move the bookcase covering it. Saying it was about time you reconnect with him.

"Hey..." Jungkook's voice echoed beautifully in your ear.

"Hey..." You said back, looking through your window to see if he's in his room.

"How did it go?"

"It was... okay, I guess..." You stammered in reply. You wanted to tell him everything, talk to him about what really happened. You also want to tell him that you appreciate his help but none of what you both did change a thing, there are people who still see you as a DUFF and frankly speaking, that's quite okay.

"Oh so... that's... that sounds..." Jungkook said hesitantly before he was cut off by loud cheering from his background.

It didn't take long for you to realize he was out, judging by his unlit room and the background noise you kept hearing from the other end. It almost sounded like he was in a pep rally. "What?... I can't hear you!"

"I'm sorry it's just too loud here..."

"It's okay Kook... where are you anyway?"

"Listen... I have to go. Leave your light on if you're still up okay? Let's talk later." He said sounding a bit distracted.

"Okay... I'll wait for you, just holler when you get here." You said with a weak giggle before finally ending the call.

Just as you were about to get in the tub, your phone started buzzing like crazy. This time with a ton of notifications from your class' group chat. You weren't supposed to check it out but everyone seemed to be in on it.

As expected, curiosity got the best of you so you eventually gave in and read the messages.
Tamara: "Are they together?"
Ashley: "I knew it!"
Justin: "📎 sent a video"
Clyde: "📎 sent a video"
Amber: "📎 sent a video"

Before plunging in your bath, you decided to click the video and get this over with. In the scene was Eve, who seemed to be getting ready to surprise someone with a homecoming proposal. Being her attention-hungry self, she filmed with a bunch of her friends including everyone else in class and all the varsity teams. Maybe, that's where Jungkook was, you thought.

Then the entire screen focused on Eve with her group of loyal minions behind her holding up a sign that says "Be my Homecoming date!" You start to think of who the guy might be until your heart started beating fast, seeing that familiar form emerging from the crowd... Jungkook.

Right before your very eyes, Eve handed him a corsage and asked if he could be her date. You're not sure when it started, but your tears were suddenly dripping all over your phone screen as you witness Jungkook accepting Eve's proposal.

You felt numb all over seeing how everyone cheered for them. After trying to get yourself to turn the video off, you wipe the tears from your eyes and finally turned your phone off.

The moment your skin hit the water and your entire body was submerged in a bubbly mix of lavender and citrus, all the memories of you and Jungkook together in the past weeks flashed by.

His sweet smile, big brown eyes, warm hugs and gentle touch. His delicate hands when he drew you in for that kiss... his supple lips that took over your entire being. Those moments you took for granted, thinking they were all because you're helping each other out... now you realize one important thing.

"I like him..." You said in a painful whisper as tears began to flow endlessly rolling down your cheeks.
