Ding!
Huh. You didn't remember a bell being stationed at the door. A cheeky, knowing grin was eating away at your face. You walked past the main show stage. Toy Freddy gave you a nod of acknowledgement, Toy Chica waved, and Toy Bonnie squinted his eyes at you. Your chin grew and you squinted your eyes right back to mock him a bit. He huffed and rolled his eyes. You stuck out your tongue. He smiled and cocked his head to the side. Chica was giggling with a hand over her beak.
You walked past Parts and Services, which was rather quiet for today, and once you reached your office, you knew why. Foxy and Withered Bonnie were arguing about something, but once you were finally within earshot, Bonnie's words distorted from frustration and it all mashed into sputtered electricity. Foxy's eye flashed towards you briefly and Bonnie immediately snapped his head in your direction.
For a moment, you began to panic, but then you remembered that you should have no problems with him now.
"Heya, Bon," you said casually (the best casual you could muster while being terrified for your life). Bonnie got pissed.
"Don't call me that," he spat.
"What, I thought we were buds?" Bonnie started walking towards you.
"You're not my friend. And I'm not yours." His shadow was looming past yours now. You looked up at the tall rabbit. His led eyes were really bright red, not the usual dim red that you'd gotten used to seeing. You couldn't tell if this just didn't mean anything, there really was no difference, or he's extra pissed now.
"Look, that's my bad, man. I'm trying to be cool, that's all. Maybe we can start fresh."
"Hi, I'm Bonnie. What's your name?" He lunged forward with his hand outstretched and you leaped backwards. You started off to run but instead he stood back and retained his posture. "I'm going to tear your face off."
Boy did you cringe at that mental image. You were extremely doubtful--Foxy had told you before that Bonnie's usually all talk. But you ran anyway. You could hear Foxy begin to scold Bonnie and that's when you knew you were right.
You ran anyway, and skidded to a stop in front of the show stage.
"Heya, Bon," you greeted Toy Bonnie with a hand gesture (your choice lol).
"Heya, Y/N," he mimicked your hand gesture.
"See? At least someone gets me. You feel me, yeah? Yeah, Bon?" You held out your hand for a fist bump, to which he hesitantly accepted.
"What's got you all huffy and puffy, girlie?" Chica piped in. You noticed that those two were the only ones on stage.
"The old Bonnie again. But I'm sure that was all talk, though, right?"
"Well, what'd he say?" Bonnie asked.
"He threatened to rip off my face."
"Oh, most definitely all talk."
"It was freaky, though. I dunno." Something changed in Toy Bonnie's expression. A glint--almost sorrowful--flashed on his eyes. "I don't think I'm ever gonna get on that rabbit's good side. If he has one." You sat on the stage frustratedly.
"No, he does," Toy Chica said. "Remember what I told you?"
"....oh right..." you remembered. Withered Bonnie had been such a softie according to Chica. You wondered what had changed so drastically. He was already broken at the point that Chica first knew him for sure.
"I can give some pointers," Toy Bonnie sighed. You nodded. "Don't try to get on his nerves. Let him be the first one to charge, 'cause then at least you know he's already pissed if he acts like an asshole."
"Language," you teased.
"He doesn't like loud noises, so try making minimal noise in your office since you're fairly close to Parts and Service. Also, just. I dunno, be the you that you usually are when he's not pissed."
"What does that mean?"
"Do whatever works."
"Huh..." you trailed off, looking between Toy Chica and Toy Bonnie as they stood in front of you.
"Why do you wanna be friends with this bunny anyway?" Chica asked. Bonnie's eyelids flew open and he elbowed Chica, thinking that you hadn't seen his reaction.
"I don't wanna deal with an asshole while I try to figure you guys out. Also, he might know some things that I'd only get out of him if I'm in the trust circle."
"I wouldn't use him like that," Chica cringed. "Unless you're, like. Really good at hiding it."
You look at Bonnie and you sure for a good moment or two.
"Bad idea?" You ask.
"Terrible idea."
"Okay."
~
I don't know what's wrong with me. Why am I not, just....FIRING at her?!! Why don't I hate her? Why doesn't anyone else? Why can't I--
"Call yerself, ye might blow a fuse." Foxy popped in. Bonnie was sitting in the corner of Parts and Service again. Foxy knew he wanted to be up and about, but wouldn't for some reason. Sure, he'd been teasing the rabbit about a potential crush on Y/N, but he thinks the root of Bonnie's behavior is something else.
"Of course," Bonnie grumbled.
"Ye have been a real stick in the mud, if not a plunderer of yer own kind. And it's only ever picked up since Y/N's hiring." Bonnie's ears twitched up. He looked at Foxy, who looked like he'd known something. Bonnie stood up, furious.
"What are you getting at."
"Nothing, Bon. I'm simply tellin' ye my observation. Now, I don't really believe ye have got some feelings for Y/N, but there's definitely somethin' there." Bonnie scoffed and narrowed his eyes at Foxy the best he could. "This be only plain teasin'."
"I'll give you the benefit of the doubt." Bonnie grumbled, standing up from his spot. "Where's Freddy?"
"Do you be going to him for advice instead?" Foxy asked, jumping in front of the rabbit's path.
"Advice on what?"
"You do look rather down in the dumps. Maybe a tip or two would help ye." Foxy smiled. Bonnie stayed silent for a solid minute.
"What do you think I need to do?"
"Just let yer feelings go. Ye seem to be denying whatever yer feeling for miss Y/N. So I say let it go. Tell her if ye like."
"What?!" Bonnie's face flared, his voice glitching out intensely. "I can't do that!!"
"I don't know what ye can't or cannot do, Bon. Only you do. But that's just my bit of advice to ye. I mean, I know ye act all stoic and edgy all the time, but ye should be able to accept a small soft spot for Y/N."
That pissed off Bonnie some more. Foxy noticed and his face dropped. Bonnie started walking out of Parts and Service.
"Bon, where are ye going?"
"To prove you wrong."
~
"And what did Darrel say back?" You asked. Toy Bonnie stood up on the show stage and acted out the encounter with their janitor.
"You really oughta sell it more. If I was a new employee, I wouldn't be able to tell if I was looking at a bunch of animatronics or real fancy Halloween costumes."
"Dang," you said. "Darrel's a savage. Well, what happened then?"
"I just laughed," Bonnie sat down with his legs hanging over the stage. "I laughed at him and agreed. 'Yeah, we gotta up our game!' I didn't really believe it, though. But then the next day, this new guy came in. Well, he wasn't new, according to the Withereds. The guy used to work at their restaurant when they were in action. So. The guy must've definitely known about us, way before we knew that he knew about us."
You scratched your head. Your watch beeped quickly once, twice, three times.
"Oh! That's my cue to leave! Sorry, guys but I have to actually do my job now." You chuckled.
"Oh, alright, then! We'll see you around later tonight if not tomorrow!" Chica waved. You spun around, waved back, and spun back around into a wall. Nope, not a wall.
~
I lunged my arm forward onto Y/N's neck and thrust her against the wall on the left side of me. I could hear the new rabbit and chicken clamoring at me, but not doing anything. Scared morons. I took a glance at them to capture the moment, then I looked back at Y/N. I had to force myself past this...I couldn't let Foxy think I was growing soft. Not after all these years. My hand clawed at her throat and left it, climbing up to her face.
I'd keep my promise from before.
She's been here far too long.
But something stopped me.
First, I could feel her face. For the first time, I could feel her. Her soft cheeks against my rough metal hand. She was warm, and her complexion was even more charming up close, even when pale with fear. What am I doing?!!
I began to grip her face harder. I could just do it in one swipe. I could get this over with, and...what? What would I go back to? I'd just kill the next night guard, who'd give way less of a shit than Y/N. She seems to actually care for us. She wanted a truce between me and her, so why am I still doing this?
I realized I'd been holding onto her face longer than I wanted to. It was starting to turn into an awkward pause. So I let go.
She stood there, frozen, plastered to the wall. The things I could do right now--NO. I needed to stop...
"BONNIE!!!" I didn't have much time to react before Foxy pummeled into my side, knocking the two of us over in the hallway. He stood up and grabbed me by the ears. I could see Mangle helping Y/N away from me. They stood between the two of us protectively. Everyone else was there to protect Y/N, so why couldn't I accept this small soft spot for the girl?
"BONNIE, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING??!!" Foxy screeched. I stood up on my own, flabbergasted. I was speechless, but Foxy stood in front of me like an angry parent and scolded me. I looked to my left and saw Y/N still standing there, staring at me. I felt my eyes burn again, but not in the usual "red and angry" burn. It was a sort of cold burn. It made me cringe on the inside. It burned me, chiseled me. It ached already to know what I'd done and her face sealed the deal. I stomped past Foxy in a mourning fashion and entered the Parts and Service room.
A shocked silence followed me until I'd closed the door. I heard some more commotion, consisting mostly of Foxy's voice, asking if Y/N was okay. He talked some about me and my strange behavior. I feared for a moment that he'd told the night guard about my special interest in her. But would she even believe him? After all that had happened, and just happened?
There was a long while of silence. I assumed that everyone had gone back to the proper stations when Foxy entered the room with me.
He blabbered on for an eternity before I spoke over him.
"I hate that I don't hate her."
He fell silent.
The silence edged me on to speak my mind.
"I HATE people. I hate what they did to me. Of course I do, we were all pissed. We're still kind of pissed. But I also hate them for what they did to Jeremy. They left a child unsupervised and that led to his death at the hands of another man. I can feel his pain. It's ruthless."
"Bonnie," Foxy snuck in through the dialogue. "That does not justify yer behavior. Y/N has shown nothing but good intent to all of us, and ye still harass her."
"I know. I just don't want to....I don't want to open up about specifics, okay? I'm conflicted."
"Then go back to square one. Ye want to interact with children so badly? Handle an adult first. Both of ye have a bad attitude. Maybe ye will get along swell." Foxy left the room.
Bonnie's eyes glowed white, and they lit up with hope.
