Meeting the Twins

An alarm pulled Rose from the resting position she'd assumed in her office chair. She opened her eyes blearily and glared at her phone, which was throwing a tantrum, buzzing against the wood of her desk as she watched it ring. Her phone went silent after a few minutes before starting up again. Rose sighed before picking up the device, viewing her lock screen to see the caller ID; Agent Fowler. She raised her eyebrows at the name and clicked her phone open, answering the call right before it stopped again, "Fowler, go ahead." The man on the other side of the phone seemed out of breath as he rushed to answer, "Rose, good...I've been trying to reach you for a while now and everyone seemed to think you disappeared...what's your current location?" Rose leaned forward into her chair, narrowing her eyes, "My office, why? What's going on?" Agent Fowler paused for a breath, "I've just been notified that an Autobot ship landed somewhere near the base...does Optimus Prime have communications? I need to know before the Pentagon gets all fussy." Rose rolled her eyes before gracefully moving from her chair to the door of her office, "I'll ask, give me ten minutes to sort this out...anything else you can tell me about the ship? No doubt Ratchet already has communications with the vesicle set up but I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into." Agent Fowler was silent on his side of the phone for a while before suddenly stating, "It's not big like the Decepticon ship, more like a 4-manned craft...it's also got racing strips on the side." Rose snorted, pulling the phone from her ear to place him on speaker as she navigated the empty sub-hall into the busy main hanger, "Racing strips, great...well I'll let you go, I'll relay any information Optimus gives me." Agent Fowler mumbled something away from the phone before replying to her directly, "Roger, talk in ten." Rose clicked the phone call away and focused her attention on the Autobots littering the base hanger, watching them closely while she raced up the raised communications platform. The human communicators were already decoding messages or filing orders as Ultra Magnus overseed them patiently; with no indication that anything was amiss. Ultra Magnus eyed her as she neared, his disapproving frown slowed Rose's steps to a hurried walk, "Magnus, where's Optimus?" The wrecker leader eyed the humans working just behind her before answering, his tone wary, "Greeting the new Autobot as is standard protocol." Rose tilted her head in confusion, "Without a human representative?" Ultra Magnus's frown slipped deeper at her questioning tone, "I assure you Optimus can handle this situation...smoothly...without human interference." Rose furrowed her brows, crossing her arms against her chest as she stared up at the mech, "Smoothly? What is going on Ultra Magnus?" The blue bot seemed careful with his wording for once, "I do not wish to alarm you but...these Autobots are not fond of humans." Rose blinked, "These? So more than one on that ship?" Ultra Magnus surveyed her before glancing at the human communicators once more, "Two...a set of spark-twins...Sunstreaker and Sideswipe." Rose shook her head slowly, "Are both against humans or...?" Ultra Magnus shifted his pedes slowly, taking his time with his answer, "One, Sunstreaker was captured by M.E.C.H. and if it wasn't for his brother...he would not be joining us right now." Rose pursed her lips, "Is Optimus bringing them back here?" Ultra Magnus recycled his optics, "Yes...he has ordered a mandatory leave for all soldiers not a part of the main team within the next 20 minutes." Rose dragged a hand down her face, "Great...how does he expect us to manage the base with only a handful of people?" Ultra Magnus's lip plate hardened into his signature frown, "I'm sure Optimus Prime has already thought that far, I would not question him so quickly." Rose sighed, "Alright fine...I'll prepare the team."

15 minutes later...

Rose pressed a hand to her head, trying to soothe the growing headache this day had turned into. Agent Fowler wasn't impressed by her limited knowledge of the craft and even less thrilled when she mentioned that one of the twins was against humans. She tucked her phone away before standing to stretch, watching the last of the main team congregate below her station on the communications platform. Ultra Magnus stood to her right, eyeing the base doors as they waited for Optimus and the rest of his party to arrive. Not even a few minutes later did the mile tracker systems flare to life; opening the base doors and indicating to everyone the group's arrival. Rose rushed to turn the blaring noise off, making sure to reset the system to pick up any other life forms. Optimus came first through the doors, slowly followed by Ratchet, Jazz, and two unfamiliar sports cars. The sounds of transforming metal met Rose's ears as she secured a position towards the front of the platform, looking down on the newcomers curiously. The first twin was majority red with white undertones/highlights littering his frame; his brother was his direct opposite; with a golden yellow frame with black forearms and pede strips. Rose studied their frames as they took in their new surroundings. The red one was inspecting the chain of command portrait wall; Autobot and human, which displayed their rankings and job designations to any interested or visiting. His EM-Field was pleasant, curiously mapping the room as it branched out to the other Autobots. The yellow twin was watching the human team with narrowed optics, the usual blue flickering into red before falling back again. His EM-Field was hostile, drawn into himself almost completely while he watched her human team. Optimus greeted the rest of the Autobots before nodding to the arrivals, "Team, meet Sunstreaker and Sideswipe...please make them feel welcome." Rose watched the Autobots approach the two with enthusiasm, coaching even the grumpy twin out of his shell. The human team stayed back, watching the interaction from a distance, looking to Rose for guidance. Rose cleared her throat, catching the attention of the twins, "It's nice to meet you Sunstreaker, Sideswipe...my name is Rose, the leader of the N.E.S.T. team...I look forward to getting to know you." The red twin, Sideswipe, eyed his brother before smiling her way, "Rose? Huh...it's nice to meet you, I'm Sideswipe and this is Sunstreaker." He pointed in his brother's direction with a warning in his optics as the yellow twin bared his denta in her direction, "Don't mind him...we've had a rough couple of days." Rose nodded in understanding, "No worries, I understand this can be a weird situation to take in, no rush if you'd like to stick to Autobot interactions for today." Sunstreaker ground his denta before stating hauntingly, not bothering to keep his voice down, "Or forever...I'd rather meet Unicron than work with humans." Rose blinked, surveying the mech in front of her, "My apologies if I've offended you in some way." Sideswipe was quick to answer for his brother, "No, no, our apologies...Sunskreater cut it out." Sunstreaker turned his glare to his brother and hissed, "Do not apologize to it." Rose glanced at Sideswipe, watching him turn to Optimus with a flustered look, "Sunstreaker, you're upsetting your brother." Sunstreaker ground his denta together, eyeing her with distrust, "Oh Look, the human has some ball bearings...don't test me." Rose dipped her head, watching her soldiers stiffen at the threat, squaring up to the yellow mech. Optimus cleared his throat plating, making the room still, "Enough, Sunstreaker I understand your situation but these are our allies and I will not support your way of handling such matters." Sunstreaker opened his intake to retort but Sideswipe beat him to it, "He understands, I think we should retire for the night." Optimus nodded his permission, following the two with his optics as Jazz lead them to their hab-suit. Rose breathed out a deep sigh before meeting her XO's thin-lipped smile. Lennox surveyed the group, "Well that was shitty." Ironhide eyed his partner, nodding in agreement, "Things went south a lot quicker than I bet on." He handed Hound a sealed cup of Engex with a wink. Ratchet shared a look with his mate before addressing the group, "I'm not sure if you're all aware but Sunstreaker has had a... difficult past with humans." Lennox shrugged, "Got it, everyone's got skeletons in their closet." Ratchet stared down the XO, a nonplussed look on his faceplates while the other soldiers snickered at his casual remark. Rose rolled her eyes, "Cut it out." The base went silent again before Lennox tentatively spoke up, "He can't go around threatening our CO though...he understands the chain of command right? I'm not sure how it works for you guys but that was a serious offense." Ultra Magnus pursed his lip plating, "It is the same...I agree, even with Sunstreaker's past I can not let this infraction go unaddressed." Optimus blinked, resting a servo on the mech's shoulder plating, "I will handle him." Ultra Magnus eyed the servo on shoulder plating before nodding slowly, linking Rose to apologize for the yellow mech's behavior. Rose waved his apology away, smiling at her team in a resigned way, "Don't worry about it Lennox, he's not in our chain so leave it to Optimus." Lennox eyed Optimus wearily, "Sorry if I crossed a line...just not a fan of his...behavior."
