The setting for this book was inspired by the Okanagan Valley, which lies in the traditional territories of the Syilx People of the Okanagan Nation in British Columbia, Canada. High Valley and its history of white settlement and farming borrow a lot from the town of Summerland, and people who know the area might catch other similarities to real places, too. It was delightful to get to spend all year hanging out with these kids in a place where I have some very fond memories.
