The Boy With No Memory - Part 4

Mike was stood there, eyes glowing bright blue.

Raising his arm, he clenched his fist. The attacker tensed up, clearly not of his own will. Then, when Mike splayed his hand out, the attacker exploded into blood and dust, covering Hope in red liquid.

She stood up, eyes wide at Mike who now stood there smiling at her,

"Dorma"

"He did what?" Ric asked in surprise,

"He blew him up" Hope answered again, wiping blood off of her with a towel, "A massive explosion of blood"

Ric ran his hands through his hair, "And your magic couldn't touch the attacker?"

"It was similar to what happens with Mike, except it blew back at me. Threw me back instead of him" She sighed,

"Which begs the question..." Caroline sighed,

"Just how powerful is he" Ric finished for her,

"What did he ask for?" Ric asked again, "The sword?"

"He said give us the sword, or they were going to take it" She repeated,

"Us, we" Ric sighed, "You know what that sounds like"

"There's more of these.... branded ones out there" Hope agreed, "And only he can stop them"

They all turned to look at Mike who was once more downing hot Cocoa like there was no tomorrow,

"We need to find the sword" Ric decided, "If the branded ones want it, then there's a good chance it can kill them as well. I'll hit the books"

"I'll ring some contacts" Caroline offered, "See if anyone knows about this sword, Hope..."

"Watch the superpowerful baby brain" She finished for her, "Makes sense"

"He wants to protect you" She suggested, "Anymore of those things turn up, he's our best shot"

"Can I at least take him up to my room or something" she sighed, "I don't want to stay locked up in here all day. And I really need a shower"

"Don't let anyone see you" Caroline replied before her and Alaric left the room.

What followed next was basically a game of hide and seek with the rest of the school as Hope tried to get Mike up to her room. The other issue was he'd keep getting distracted and wander off. But eventually Hope managed to get him upstairs to her room.

When she got inside, she patted the bed. This time he followed and sat down immediately.

"Fast learner" Hope laughed, "Hopefully you can learn to talk and understand us that quickly"

He tilted his head again, "Guess I can't be too hopeful" she sighed, turning him towards the TV, she put the kids channel on, "I'm gonna shower, watch that and don't wander off"

Just to be safe she locked her door before heading to the bathroom and starting her shower. It was only when she finished did she realised all her clothes were in her room, with Mike.

"Shit" she cursed to herself. Wrapping herself up in a towel she stuck her head out the door, seeing that Mike was still glued to the kids program she crept out of the room and quickly grabbed her robe and wrapped it around herself. The noise drew Mikes attention, turning to her and smiling.

"Hi" she chuckled,

Head tilt.

She sat down on the bed, sighing as she felt herself relax, "I meant to say thank you for earlier" she started, even though he couldn't understand her, "Saving me. I wouldn't have died permanently, but I'm not ready to be a vampire yet"

He reached out and started playing with her hair again, this time she laughed, letting him, "God you're literally like a child"

He grinned at her.

Deciding to be lazy she used her magic to levitate the remote towards her. Mike watched it and for the first time, he laughed.

"You like that?" Hope chuckled. Deciding to entertain him she used her magic to make the remote spin in the air. Mike reached out and tapped the remote causing it to spin more.

After another laugh, Hope noticed her pillow floating as well. Then slowly a dozen or so more objects started floating. Looking back to Mike she saw his eyes glowing blue like before. But a softer blue, not as bright.

"Dorma" he whispered as he found joy in all the floating objects.

With another wave of her hand, Hope shut all the curtains in the room. Then with one more quick incantation, a glowing ball of energy appeared to light the room up.

Again, Mike copied her but took it further. Her ball of energy was yellow, but when Mike's eyes flashed a brighter blue, a plethora of blue energy balls surrounded them.

Hope laughed as she watched the strange boy effortlessly master a spell that took years to learn. Because without realising it, he had cast a comfort spell.

"Incredible" Hope whispered, "You learn so quickly"

Mike turned and grinned at Hope, the blue balls of energy surrounding her. For the first time in years, Hope felt the weight of all the trauma and worries in her life lift off her shoulders as she relaxed.

In fact she was so relaxed that she slowly reclined backwards, feeling her eyes grow heavy. Before finally with a sigh of content she fell asleep, with blue light floating all around her.
