24. Memories

Louisa's p.o.v

Korra wanted to decline, but he motioned her over anyways- I narrow my eyes at this as I breathe in and out to stay calm. "Avatar Korra, you witnessed Amon take away people's bending firsthand..." he trails off at first. Then he adds on "how serious a threat does he pose to the innocent citizens of Republic City?" I hard swallow at this. The memory of Amon on that night come back as I shake my head saying "I need some fresh air." I break away from Bolin as I go outside, trying not to freak out as I adjust my glasses again.

Though my breathing starts to quicken as I pace on the porch of this place a bit, another memory of his mask comes to mind. I shake my head as I softly grunt at the sight, but I lean against the railing as I clench my hands tight. 'Get out of my head, I didn't need this tonight' I think annoyed as I feel tears slowly run down my face. The door opened and closed behind whoever just came out, so I breathe in and out deeply. Trying to calm myself as I say "just go back inside, I'm fine..." "you don't seem fine" that surprised me.

Looking back I see Mako "hey.. I didn't think-" "that I'd be the one to come check on you?.. yeah, Chotang's distracted with some Earthbender girl. She looks around our age, while Bolin was going to come out; but I said I'd talk to you." He leans against the railing as he stands by my side, but I sigh as I lean against the railing too. "What happened back there?" He asks after a minute, so I just look back down instead of at the sky. It took me a second to talk "I...I'm still not alright after the entire capturing and Amon thing."

I can feel his eyes on me as I say this "and it's hard to admit since I don't want Cho to worry on me stressing, or over stressing, over anything. Bolin knows, but this just came up out of the blue again, even though we talked about it before. It just scares me that he can just take away our bending- not to mention he seems good in combat. If he ever gets me again I already know I won't be as lucky as I was when you guys came and saved us. Hearing his name just brought back all that fear and-" "I'm gonna stop you right there."

Mako interrupts me, so I look at him to see he's looking down too "that's the thing, if he ever gets you... he has no reason to target you. He doesn't know anything about you except that you know the Avatar, right?" He asks me. I think that over as I say "yeah, but-" "but nothing, we saved you and Bolin from that guy. He won't get you again like he did before, okay?" He asks, so I shake my head as I make him look at me. "You don't know what you're talking about" "enlighten me" he says as he looks me in the eye.

I breathe in and out before closing my eyes "I'm a Double-bender" I softly whisper out, it might have been too quiet for him to hear. He wasn't responding, so I look up at him to see his eyes are wide "are you serious?.." I nod. "Yes, it's true.. and it's here to stay" I say as I look at him, though the door opens again, so we look over. There stands Asami and Bolin "uh... what's happening out here?" She was the first to ask. I look back at Mako and realize how close we are and my hand was on his face for when I made him look at me.

We realized how this might look as we take a step away from the other and I cross my arms as he fumbled over his words a bit. Though I just admit the truth "he was just reassuring me over what happened with Amon and things." Bolin's eyes widened at this as he hugs me close "why didn't you tell me you were freaking out again?" He asks. I just admit "we already talk about it, I didn't want to sound stupid-" "Louisa, I'm still a bit freaked out over it. Mako's had to talk to me too, right bro?" Bolin interrupts me, so we look over at Mako.

He isn't looking at us as he nods his head saying "yeah, that's how I knew to come out here; I recognized the look she had. It was the same one you had" Asami then says "I hope everything's okay" I look at Mako again. I hard swallow as I say "as okay as it can be" "Louisa.." he finally addresses me again. He took a second to say "regarding what you last said... I'm sure he doesn't know that either. Be cautious on who and where you say that information, I assume Chotang doesn't know you're telling that either, I won't say anything."

I smile at this and hug him tight "thanks, Mako" he pushed me back saying "I don't do hugs to random girls, thank you." Asami then says "we should head back in, you two missed Korra saying she's joining Tarrlok's task force." My eyes widen at this as I share a look with Mako, from the way this sounds things are serious. Going back inside music's already playing again, so I look down and just say "I'm gonna get some water." With that I walk over to the table and grab a glass before filling it up, Bolin comes by me.

"Did you tell him about your.. newfound ability?" He tried to be discreet, so I nod saying "yes... I did" "woah, so you trust me and Mako." I smile at this and say "of course I do; you've been by my side for a few big things and he saved me from one of those big things. You two are great people" I take another drink of my water before they announce the gala's end is near. With that I go back to that room and grab my clothes before walking back outside. Knowing that Chotang would want to leave early to get back to our place before the crowd.
