It was already bad enough that we're currently in enemy territory, but on top of that, neither I nor Thorfinn can understand a single thing they're saying. Nightfall has come and we're standing in front of a table with a short fat guy eating food. The nerve of this guy. His own people are starving and yet he has the audacity to eat as much as he wants. The translator was conveying to me and Thorfinn what the guy was saying. In short, he called us 'Norseman Scum'

While I became angry and was about to say something, Thorfinn just held out a hand to stop me and shook his head. He looked back to the short guy.

"Your strategy will fail. The front gate only sends your men to death." When did Thorfinn's voice get so, deep? I found myself staring at him longer than I expected. "They have no defenses on the lake, so we need to attack from there."

I couldn't really hear what the translator was conveying to Thorfinn, since he was whispering in his ear. I guess they don't want me to get in on all the info.

"Just to be clear, are you refusing?" Now I really wanted to know what the Franc man was saying. Thorfinn's strategy sounded solid, what could possibly cause them to refuse us yet? Thorfinn hasn't even mentioned the fact that we'd get like half their treasure. "In that case, Askeladd and his men will join up at the fortress." All of a sudden all the men pointed their swords at us. One guy had his sword dangerously close to my neck. Thorfinn shot him a quick glare. "Our deaths won't change that."

"Speak for yourself Thorfinn, 'cause I don't want to die," I whispered to him, even though I knew they couldn't understand me.

He ignored me and continued talking, "Without my signal that you agree to their terms, a hundred fierce northerners become your enemy."

Next thing I know, we're waiting on top a hill a few meters away from the base. Thorfinn called the dude a fatass and even without it being translated, the guy knew he was just insulted. I couldn't help laughing.

The troops were ordered to move forward and Askeladd and his men were nowhere to be seen. Thorfinn asked one of the generals which guy was the other side's leader. He pointed to a guy in a feathered helmet.

"Good to know." I already knew what Thorfinn was about to do, so I grabbed his arm. He looked back.

"Be careful." He nodded and said, "You too." Then he ran off to get the general's head.

That's new. Usually, he just nods his head and runs off. Caught up in my thoughts, I didn't notice the fat guy ordering his men to shoot Thorfinn with their bows and arrows.

All of a sudden, I heard rumbling. Then I felt the ground shake. I looked down, then I looked behind me, realizing that that's where it was coming from, and I heard men's yelling getting closer and closer. All of a sudden my eyes widened and I quickly dove to the side to avoid Askeladd and his men. Said man atop a ship and his men carrying the ships. The fat guy and his general had to duck to get out of the way. I saw Askeladd smile at me for a split second while I was sitting on the ground from getting out of their way earlier.

The guy finally realized that they were allies and started getting excited.

Now I've seen everything. Honestly, that was pretty smart. If you can't take the back way that's too guarded, take the unguarded front. The only thing to worry about now are the crossbows.

Good luck Askeladd. And good luck Thorfinn.
