Alex's POV
After dinner, we went to our room and sat on our bed. Sarah was reading something while I was working on my laptop. I realised we had no time for ourselves in the past month as we both were busy with our work, so I decided to give my full attention to Sarah tonight.
I closed the laptop and moved towards her, taking her book from her hand, closing it, and placing it on the bedside table. "Sarah, let's talk. It's been months since we had time to talk. I'm sorry I've been busy with work."
"It's not your fault, Alex. It was important, and you can't ignore work just to talk to me." She smiled at me to ease my concerns.
"I could leave everything to talk to you," I mumbled under my breath, which she didn't hear.
"What?" She asked, not understanding what I said.
"Nothing... let's talk; we've both been busy for the past couple of months," I suggested.
"Okay... so you start," she said. Only she has the power to make me talk.
Then we talked for an hour. I started with how the case was developing and the business. Then we discussed a common topic that took us an hour to explore. I expressed my excitement and happiness that Mia and Daniel had finally found each other. They're both great people, and we both want the best for them. We wished for their continued happiness together, and came over with whatever challenges they have.
Then I asked, "Now tell me what's going on with you." I'm always eager to listen to her sweet voice.
"Nothing much, just busy studying all day. I don't know why I took these extra subjects, and now I have so much to cover," she said with a sigh.
"Don't worry, Sarah. If you feel pressured, consider dropping a couple of subjects. If the college doesn't agree, let me know, and I'll make sure they comply with your request," I said with genuine concern.
"Oh, Alex, why are you always ready to fight? Relax, I'm just tired. It doesn't mean I don't want to study. I like my subjects, and I don't want to drop them," she chuckled.
"Okay, if you say so..." I thought to myself that I'd still contact the college dean, and if he didn't agree I have my ways as well. But I didn't mention that to her.
"Alex, you're not contacting my college behind my back, am I clear?" She told me in an authoritative voice, well as much as she could do but I just laughed at it. She's so cute when she tries to be bossy.
But how did she know what I was planning?
She stared at me with serious eyes, and I raised my hands in surrender. "Okay, fine."
"Good. Anyways, I'm mostly in the library," she said.
"You know you shouldn't be sitting all day; it can harm your health. Try to take a break and walk around occasionally. Don't fall ill because of your exams, okay?" I said, concerned, while holding her hand. Her touch still sent sparks through my body.
"Okay, anyways, I don't sit all day. Noah has made it his mission not to let me stress out alone. He brings coffee every day, and we walk in the garden outside the library to get some fresh air. You know, he's helped me a lot to reduce my stress. He's a good guy and a good friend," she smiled.
"Oh..." My jaws were clenched. How dare he? He brings coffee for MY WIFE? They walk in the garden? What's going on?
"Are you okay, Alex?" She asked, bringing me out of my thoughts.
"Huh? Yeah, just..." I wanted to kill that jerk.
"You must be tired; you're already stressed with the case and the deals. Let's sleep?" She suggested.
