Daniel's POV

It was already 11 in the morning. Sarah had just finished her breakfast and was sleeping after taking her medicines, as they were sedating, according to the doctor, she needed more rest.

I received a call from the office. 'Why is the HR head calling me?' I thought to myself.

"Yes?" I asked, picking up the call.

"Sir, I am sorry to disturb you, but we can't reach Mr. Reynolds, and his presence was requested in the office as we have received a complaint against him," Mr. Jones (HR head of R&A Enterprise) said.

"Complaint? What complaint?" I asked, confused.

"Yes, sir, Ms. Bertha complained this morning that Mr. Reynolds tried to force himself on her sexually and has requested action against it before going to the police," Jones explained.

"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" I was angry at the news.

"Sir, I am just informing you what Ms. Bertha told us." Jones was scared by my outburst.

"THAT WOMAN IS FUCKING LYING. ALEX WOULD NEVER DO THAT. DON'T YOU KNOW HIM?" I was really angry at this point and spoke loudly on the phone.

Hearing the shouting, Mia slipped into the room and observed a furious me talking on the phone, pacing around the bedroom.

"Sir, can you please bring Mr. Reynolds to the office as there is an internal investigation set against him, and he needs to cooperate until the matter is resolved," Jones said, and I cut the call in irritation, throwing my phone against the wall.

"What happened?" Mia asked, concerned.

"Fucking Bertha happened," I gritted my teeth while dialling Alex's number. Thank goodness my phone didn't break when I threw it.

Alex didn't pick up his phone, and I tried again. "Pick up your fucking phone," I said irritably.

Alex did not pick up his phone, and I told Mia what Bertha had done in the office, and that I needed to leave with Alex immediately. Mia nodded and said she would take care of Sarah.

I went to the Reynolds's estate, but Alex was not there.

"Where the hell are you?" I shouted, trying to call him and driving frantically around the city.

I reached the place I knew where I might find Alex—his penthouse.

I entered the penthouse with the spare key, which I keep along with the other keys that I always carry.

I saw the fucker peacefully sprawled out on the sofa like nothing happened in the world.

I so wanted to kick him, but I decided to slap him instead.

HEHE, you can't blame me; what else are best friends for?

I slapped his cheeks. "Alex, wake up, we have a situation." But Alex didn't budge and was passed out, only whispering 'Sarah' in his sleep.

"FUCK!" I was irritated. Why does he have to drink so much and pass out right when I need him awake?

I tried to wake him, but he wouldn't get up. Even if he were up, he definitely would not be in his senses.

I decided to visit the office alone for now and understand the situation. Then, I'll come and get his ass.

I walked straight into Jones' office and demanded the whole story. He narrated, "Ms. Bertha came crying to my office first thing in the morning and gave me a written complaint against Mr. Reynolds, saying he was trying to force himself on her."
