back to present time

the cool night air swept over me as i slid into the car, and i couldn't help but feel a sense of nervousness. it had been a week since the party, but neither of us had mentioned it since.

during the school hours, we've only seen each other in two classes and then during the lunch breaks when we all gathered, so we haven't been alone together since then. it was as if nothing had happened between us.

he greeted me with a simple, "hey." it seemed like we were both content with the situation between us, at least for now. suna hit the gas pedal smoothly.

"where are we headed?" i asked, trying to keep the conversation light.

he shrugged, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips, "just thought we'd go for a drive. it's been a while."

it was a classic suna move: when words failed, he relied on actions and taking me on drives around the city was one of them.

i smiled to myself, "you and your spontaneous drives."

suna shot me a playful look, "you love 'em."

as the car glided through the quiet streets, i couldn't help but steal glances at suna. his relaxed demeanor and the way his fingers tapped the steering wheel to the rhythm of the music created an irresistible aura of coolness. it was the same suna i'd known for years, it felt like we were reclaiming a sense of normalcy after the events of the party, and i was happy to enjoy the familiar comfort of his company.

the city lights illuminated his features, casting shadows that highlighted his sharp jawline. suna had always been attractive, but in that moment, he seemed even more magnetic, if that were possible. we drove for a while, the cityscape gradually giving way to a quieter area with a clear view of the twinkling lights below. suna parked the car, and we both stepped out, taking in the breathtaking view. eventually, him and i decided to sit on the hood of the car, our legs dangling over the edge.

suddenly, he began to search in his hoodie pocket and pulled out a lilac-colored tiny bag that he later revealed to have weed inside.

as he rolled the joint, suna smiled, "remember that time we got lost in the woods during our camping trip in high school?" he grinned, his eyes glinting with amusement.

i chuckled, recalling the adventure, "how could i forget? we wandered around for hours before we finally found our way back to the campsite. it was like something out of a survival movie."

suna laughed, the sound filling the air with warmth, "and then we had to listen to kita's lectures about wilderness survival for the rest of the trip."

in the distance, we could hear the faint sounds of the city coming to life, a reminder that the world was still turning even as we sat there in quiet contemplation and at some point, suna's phone buzzed with a message, but he ignored it, and i appreciated the gesture even though i began to wonder who could be texting him at this hour.

he looked at me with a sly grin, a silent question in his eyes while offering me the blunt.

i chuckled and nodded in agreement, forgetting about his phone. suna expertly lit it, and we passed it back and forth, the familiar ritual grounding us in the present. we'd shared countless joints over the years, but this one felt different. it was like an unspoken bridge between us, a way to address what had happened at the party without directly acknowledging it.

with each inhale and exhale, a sense of relaxation washed over me, and it became easier to broach the topic that had been hanging between us like a delicate thread.

"you know," i began, my voice soft, "about what happened at the party..."

suna nodded, his gaze fixed on the glowing ember of the blunt, "yeah, i've been thinking about it too."
