CHAPTER 12 – D.I.E BEGINS

Peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of harmony within oneself and with the world around us.

- Unknown

RECAP:

After what felt like an eternity, Karna finally woke up, only to find himself blindfolded. He sensed multiple people's voices and their laughter. Since then, every day they tortured Karna in various ways possible. He grew so depressed that he realised his determination to eliminate all psychos would be in vain. Even when pain threatens to consume him, his pride keeps him from begging for mercy. A mysterious man appears and asks him to join his group. "Why in the world would I work for a piece of shit like you...? You are a fucking psycho..." Karna replies angrily. Every word the man spoke held a semblance of truth, causing Karna to question his motives. He pondered for a good ten minutes while the mysterious man patiently awaited his response. Karna couldn't help but smile slightly, knowing he stood before the man he desired to eliminate. Karna couldn't contain his emotions any longer; tears streamed down his face uncontrollably and he pleaded, "Put an end to my suffering..."

STORY CONTINUES:

"Look at your pathetic, weak self, Karna. Is this really you? Despite your intimidating exterior, you're nothing but fragile glass on the inside. But don't worry about it. Just follow me, be my associate, and I'll never harm you or your loved ones. Trust me, Karna. I'm the only one who can save you. Join me, and you'll understand," the man' proposed an agreement with Karna, despite being an enemy who could pose a danger to him. Perhaps he saw potential in Karna, a potential that might surpass his own.

Karna was perplexed; he faced two options. One was to stick to his own sense of justice, while the other was to surrender to the manipulative ways of this mysterious man, becoming no better than the corrupt officials he often criticised, a mere "pig," as he used to mock them. However, if he chose to align with this man, he could potentially become the most influential person in the state and bide his time to exact his revenge, eventually having the opportunity to eliminate this man whenever he pleased. Despite his initial hesitation, Karna made up his mind to join forces with this man. Then, suddenly, he heard someone else entering the room. Siddharth, holding a revolver, enters the room covered in blood. "I am here. There is nothing to be worried about anymore," Siddharth's voice reassured him as he pointed his revolver at him.

"It's been a long time since I've met you. You haven't changed a bit; you're still as young-looking as ever. The fact that you're here suggests you've dealt with all of my associates who were guarding this place. Interesting... Do you really want to fight me over this man? Are you willing to kill your best friend for him?" the man inquired.

"I'm not that stupid. I know there's a man standing behind me, waiting for your orders to strike down my head on your command with his sword... I'm not here to face you. I came to ask you a favor... Spare Karna. Let him go," Siddharth replied.

"A favor, huh? Interesting, It's alright. As long as he no longer pursues me... How about that? Are ya happy? Ask him to leave me the fuck alone. I want to live my life in complete silence. I don't want to deal with this shit every day, you see," the man agreed easily.

An agreement was reached between them, and the man released Karna, whispering in his ear, "I'm always watching you." Siddharth and Karna swiftly left the premises, escaping without hesitation. Karna couldn't believe how easily he had been spared. Previously, the man had wanted Karna to be his associate, but with Siddharth's intervention, the man's decision had completely changed, and he had spared Karna without a second thought. Karna was eager to question the man about his sudden change of heart, but deep down, he was just grateful to have made it out alive, thinking that God had given him another chance at life.

Siddharth tells the mysterious man as they leave, "This isn't the world we dreamt of... I still think there is time for you. Killing everyone doesn't bring peace; it merely makes chaos worse. We still have time to put a stop to all of this. There may be a different approach. We simply needed to think more." The mysterious man replied, "Death... Look around you. Revenge... Fun... Agony... No one is good. Let me tell you one thing... I did this; I created it just for fun. The taste of the blood refreshes me. I took control of the entire world. These people are half-dead. It's the beginning of a new era. It's a civilization, my revolution. These killings make me who I am; the blood all around, the chaos is everything I need to live; don't worry, I will build the world I promised you I would, but in my way." Siddharth departed the area with Karna, a look of displeasure on his face. "Alligator huh! That's what he calls himself now." Siddharth said to himself.

After the incident, Karna was bedridden. For several days, his mind raced with ideas of getting revenge on those who had tormented him. As his rage grew stronger every day, he began to beat criminals who had the misfortune of getting caught by him severely and brutally; he wanted them to suffer because he believed that death would be an easy way out. He wanted them to suffer and feel the pain he had endured.

Siddharth saw Karna changing day by day. The anger inside him grew stronger, and he became more violent with each passing day, just as the Alligator had predicted. The darkness within Karna consumed him, inch by inch. Siddharth always attempted to calm him down, but Karna became emotionless.

In the meantime, Karna meets the psycho who got captured in the hospital during Karna's disappearance, and orders him to draw his king's face. Dharani brought an artist to sketch the face, as he mentions. The psycho first refused, but after much torture by Karna, he consented to assist in sketching his king's face.

After a complete recovery, Karna returned to the room where the captured psycho was present in the middle of the forest. A wave of nausea hit him as he entered. The room was a gruesome scene—blood smeared everywhere, and the artist's body sprawled lifeless on the floor. But amidst the horror, Karna noticed a chilling detail—a crude sketch drawn on paper that is covered in blood. It depicted a man's face with one missing eye. Karna's gut clenched. Karna thought to himself, "This had to be the one who talked to me... The one who these fucking psychos call the Alligator... the King... The mastermind behind all these hunting, and the one that I need to eliminate."

As they delved deeper into the dark world of crime-solving, Dharani found herself spending most of her time alongside Karna. Vrinda took care of Karna, calming him. Siddharth, troubled by Karna's dark actions, wondering how to change Karna. Karna also made a mental note to himself that he would eventually confront Siddharth about his friend's involvement. Karna knew that the time for difficult conversations would come, but in that moment, they allowed themselves a break from the darkness that plagued their lives.

Unbeknownst to them all, the psycho king's evil plans were unfolding in secret, and the world is slowly taking shape, casting a long shadow over humanity. The world was on the edge of disaster, and the outcome of one moment might disturb everything. In this uncertain state, they could only wait, caught between anticipation and dread, as they stood together on the verge of a storm that threatened to swallow them all.
