The day simultaneously dragged on and raced by me. All around me it seemed like everyone was rushing from place to place, preparing for the night. Even Kid ended up having to leave my side, even though it was more than obvious he would've done anything to stay.
Even though I was free to go home, I sat in Stein's classroom the whole day. There wasn't really much to do, other than the occasional visit from Kid when he was free. But, after around 10, he stopped showing up, and I ended up falling asleep.
Suddenly I awoke, a crash disrupting my sleep. Snapping my head up from the desk, I saw that it was only Stein, once again falling over in his chair.
"Oh, hello Y/N. I didn't know you were here. I'm sorry if I woke you."
I shook my head, it really wasn't a big deal, "It's alright Professor."
He didn't say anything after that, and switched his attention over to some papers on his desk. I looked at the clock, and saw that several hours had passed, as it was now almost three in the afternoon.
Stretching out first, I stood up and gathered what little I had brought to school with me that day, and started to walk down the stairs, preparing to go find Kid. However, before I could even finish my descent, Stein had stopped me.
"Y/N," he said, motioning me over with his free hand, "come over here real quick, I need some help."
In spite of the fact that I desperately wanted to go find Kid and go home, I listened, if only in fear of what would happen if I didn't.
"What do you need?" I asked, urgency hidden in my voice.
He handed me a stack of papers, "The one on top is the answer key, use that to help me grade."
Stein clearly had some sort of bigger reason, he was more than capable of grading these on his own, and he had even told the class that the only other person he would ever allow to grade his students' work was Marie. Curious as to what was going on, I sat down, and began to grade as he told me to.
"Y/N," he started, just as I was finishing grading the first paper, "I'll cut right to the chase."
I didn't say anything, but I did look up from what I was doing.
"You may go ahead and stop Y/N, neither of us want you to be doing this for me."
He was right, and I sat down the pen I had borrowed.
For a moment Stein didn't say anything, and continued reviewing the paper he was on. I wasn't really sure what to do, and to be honest, I didn't think even he knew why he called me over.
Finally, he spoke. "Y/N, have you noticed anything...strange about Kid recently?"
I turned my head to the side, confused.
"What do you mean?"
He sighed, "Well, perhaps since you didn't know him before you met you, you don't understand."
"Could you explain then?"
I could tell he was hesitating, for what reason I wasn't sure.
"Don't worry about it Y/N," he told me, "just be careful, alright? I care about all of my students, even if it doesn't seem like it."
I was confused, but tried not to think too much about it. Kid seemed fine to me.
"You may go now Y/N. If you're going to the anniversary party then I'll see you then."
"Yes, bye Professor Stein." I turned to the door, but then remembered that I didn't know where Kid was, "Oh before I leave."
"Yes?"
"Do you know where Kid is?"
"Oh yes, on my way here I saw him by the cafeteria doors."
"Thank you."
"No problem," Stein replied, returning to his work.
I walked down the hallway, watching out for Kid as I did. Several people passed by me, giving a small nod or wave at most for a greeting.
Behind me I could hear what sounded like running, and just as I turned my head Tsubaki tackled me, sending us both to the ground.
"Y/N!" She joyously shouted, "I found you!"
I giggled at her, "I never went missing."
She laughed with me, wrapping her arms even tighter around me.
"C'mon Tsubaki, you're embarrassing the poor girl," BlackStar joked.
Tsubaki stood up after that, flustered and adjusting her clothes.
"So where are you headed Y/N?" She asked, and I could tell she had something else she was getting at.
"I was actually on my way to go find Kid."
"Then I'll go with you!" She eagerly offered, intertwining her arm with mine, "Come on BlackStar, I think I saw him near the cafeteria last."
BlackStar sighed, but followed along as Tsubaki dragged me with her.
Nobody talked, not that we really had time to. Just as we turned the first corner we bumped into Kid, and he dropped the bento box he was holding.
"Damnit!" He shouted, stepping back, "if that messed up the food in there you're going to pay-"
Kid instantly stopped what he was saying as he noticed just who it was that had run into him.
His scowl was suddenly replaced with a smile as he saw me, "Y/N!" Then he noticed Tsubaki, and irritation came over his face, although his smile remained, "And Tsubaki, hello."
"Hi Kid," she said, her cheerful tone from earlier still in her voice, "we were just looking for you!"
I could tell Kid was straining to keep smiling, especially as Tsubaki held on tighter to me.
"Well you found me!" he fake laughed, "Come here Y/N, let's go home. You'll want to have plenty of time to get ready."
As I went to stand by Kid, Tsubaki pulled me into a hug and what I thought was a kiss on the cheek, but to be honest I was too shocked by the hug to be sure.
Behind me I could feel Kid getting upset. I was pulled out of the embrace, and brought into a different one.
With his arm around my shoulder, he led me away from Tsubaki and BlackStar.
Tsubaki said bye to us both, but Kid didn't respond and I was still in too much shock to register it.
I looked up at Kid, "Is everything okay?"
He looked me in the eyes and smiled, "Of course, you're here now."
Kid was lying.
