"Who told you to walk?!" Magaths voice boomed as hundreds of aspiring warrior candidates ran through the mud, the rain practically bathing them whilst they each tried their best not to fall behind
"Run you filthy descends of pigs!! Or do you not want to become honorary Marleyans??"
"Does he ever shut up" Adina thought as she wore a scowl on her face, she new her mother shouldn't have pent so much time on her hair but the woman still insisted, claiming it would make a good first impression
Now that first impression was soaked and covered in mud, all the homemade products she'd used trickling down the young girls face and into her eyes
Adina found herself neck and neck with marcel galliard, one of the warrior candidates most promising candidates, whilst Annie caught up to them, porco peick and berthold not too far behind, and then Reiner
"Sucks to be him I guess" Adina though as she decided to ignore the blondes distraught face and focus on herself
"Marcel galliard!! You pass!" Magath said as her and Annie exchanged a look, both speeding up, Adina just managing to beat the blond
"Adina alves, you pass!!" Magath declared, the young girl letting out a sigh of relief as her blonde companion also passed. The two taking a moment to breath

"How do worms poop?" Pieck half asked, half said to herself as her, Adina and Annie sat on the dry feilds just by their training grounds, looking up at the sun
"I though that's what mud was made out of?" Adina said, growing curious "what do you think Annie?" She asked turning to the blonde who was now squishing a beetle underneath her shoe
"Dunno" she simply stated, over the three years these eight year old girls had known eachother, they had formed a sort of trio which mostly consisted of peick and Adina asking weird questions whilst Annie responded in one word answers
Yet nevertheless, she greatly appreciated the two girls company and saw them as her comrades, something she'd never admit out loud
Pieck and Adina had been friends way before the warrior program, due to only living opposite eachother, they were always in eachothers houses, they even had spare room for eachother and would go out to the market with eachother almost every week, dragging along Annie whenever her father allowed her,
the young girls often had to lie to the man and tell them they were going to train, then proceeding to douse themselves in water to make it look like they'd actually done some work
If life was that simple, Adina would be more than content. Even with having to wear the demeaning armbands to signify she was a spawn of the devil
But the world is unfair, and obviously, she had to train to become a child soldier and have her life cut down by thirteen years
Why? Her brother, or more so her father
He was a traditional man, he wanted his son to go through a proper education and get a respectable job, but it was costly, and getting into university as an eldian was practically impossible.
But there was a loophole, his physically gifted younger child who, ding! ding! ding! Just so happened to be a girl, so he didn't have any plans for her future compared to his son
Adina was their ticket to a better life, it didn't matter what she went through, then ends justified the means and wether she liked it or not, she would become an honorary marleyan for them
Despite this, days when they weren't training or when she'd excelled all of a sudden she was his pride and joy, he'd brag about her on the streets, and even buy her new clothes
He was a confusing man and she knew she shouldn't search for his crumbs of love but she couldn't help herself, it wasn't as if her mother was the best either
Her mother had never finished her education leading to her being financially dependent on Adinas father, ontop of that she had given up on her older daughter, deeming her life as a lost cause
Her main priority was keeping Adinas sister away from their father. Sometimes Adina would feel bitter, why couldn't she have put that effort in to save her? She had the capacity, she just didn't care enough about her
But she still had her sister, maybe because she was still young and impressionable, but Anaya adored her older sister more than anything, she wasn't using Adina or trying to mould her into a killing machine
She just loved her big sister
And the idea of putting her sister whom she loved more than anything through school, made all of the pain worth it
Adina wasn't stupid enough to believe marleyan propaganda, but she would use that corrupt system to her advantage during her short time on earth

"Did you guys hear?" Zeke, the only sixteen year old around a bunch of eight year olds stated as he held onto an apple
"They say they'll be attacking paradis in just a few more years, the time has come for us to inherit the titans" He stated as he threw the apple to marcel who bit it and passed it onto his younger brother porco
"The war with the south will be won soon, and the time for us to become warriors is approaching, so I've heard they'll be reorganising the warrior unit as a part of the arms new structure" the blonde continued, sometimes he was really useful and a good role model, then other times he was just odd
"Out of us right candidates, seven will be chosen as warriors all at once"
"I'd hate to be left behind" Adina sighed, feeling worry grown in her stomach, she knows all it's takes is for her name not to be read out and that's it, she's kicked out, none of her siblings get an education and her life's over before it even started
"You're like the least likely out of all of us to get left behind" Pieck reassured her "You are strong" Annie hummed before the three were interrupted by Reiner
"I did it! Now I can become a marleyan!" Reiner smiled, his happiness being short lived as porco rained on his parade
"Huh? You didn't do anything" he stated, making his fellow blonde pause "you're obviously the weakest in the group, if one person's getting left behind it's you."
"What?" Reiner questioned
"What are you good at? Are you strong? Smart? A good shot? A good fighter? A natural talent?"
"You're none of those things, what they saw in you was the loyalty to Marley you displayed in those written tests" porco stated, pieck Annie and Adina going back to discussing if they'd ever get to see a penguin in real life before their conversation was rudely interrupted by a loud thud
"Report this!!" Porco yelled as the threw Reiner into the ground, marcel having to restrain him whilst Adina and pieck left with Zeke, Annie being too engrossed in the smushed bug at that moment
"Porco you need to go to anger management class" Adina tutted before walking away with Zeke and pieck
"Don't take too long or else I'll catch another beating from the commander" The blonde shouted at Reiner before turning to pieck and Adina
