Third Person

The Araneta family had always celebrated their milestones with warmth and love, and their 13th anniversary was no exception. Irene wanted to make it extra special this year, so she prepared a bit of a fancy dinner for her and Greggy. She meticulously set the dinner table with elegant table settings, candles, and fresh flowers, creating an atmosphere of romance. Her heartwarming gesture was matched by their two sons, Alfonso and Luis, who eagerly lent a hand.

Alfonso took charge of folding the napkins into intricate designs, showing an unexpected flair for artistry. Luis, on the other hand, arranged the flowers and candles with a keen sense of balance and aesthetics. Irene couldn't help but feel proud of her boys as they contributed to the preparations.

As they worked together, the family engaged in light-hearted conversation.

"Mom, why are we making the dinner so fancy tonight?" Alfonso asked curiously.

"Well, it's a special day, sweetie. It's Mom and Dad's 13th anniversary. We want to make it extra special for them." Irene replied

"What do you think, Dad's going to get for Mom, Alfonso?" Luis asked his brother.

"Maybe another big diamond ring!" Alfonso replied excitedly.

Irene chuckled, knowing that her husband's love was the greatest gift of all. "Oh, you boys, a diamond ring would be lovely, but what Mom really wants is to spend this beautiful evening with your Dad."

After two hours of meticulous preparation, the table was set, and the ambiance was perfect. However, Greggy had not yet to arrive, and the clock had struck 9 p.m.

Irene then told her boys, "Kids, I think it's getting late. We should start dinner."

The boys exchanged concerned glances. They had been eagerly anticipating their parents' anniversary dinner together, and it was unusual for Greggy to be so late.

"But Mom, we can't start without Dad. He'll be here soon, right?" Luis asked with worry emotions.

Irene with a soft smile replied, "I hope so, darling, but it's already quite late for you both. I don't want you staying up too late on a school night."

The disappointment was evident on their young faces, but they knew their mother was right.

Alfonso then later agreed. "Alright, Mom. We'll have our dinner, and you can save some for Dad when he comes home."

Irene couldn't help but feel a pang of concern, but she hid it well, trying to reassure her children.

"That sounds like a plan. Let's eat and save some for Dad. He'll appreciate it when he gets back."

The three of them shared a hearty meal, savoring the dishes Irene had lovingly prepared. Irene's heart ached a little as she glanced at the empty chair across from her, where Greggy should have been sitting. However, she was determined to stay positive and make the most of the evening. She even texted him asking where he is and he reminded him what day today is.

"Mom, do you think Dad's okay?" Luis asked.

"Of course, sweetie. Your dad is probably just caught up with something at work. He'll be back soon." she replied reassuring her sons.

As the minutes ticked by, Irene knew it was getting late for the kids, so she gently insisted they head to bed.

"Okay, my loves, it's bedtime for you two." Irene said.

"But what if Dad comes back while we're asleep?" both of them asked their mother.

"Don't worry. I'll let him know where you are. Now off to bed."
