- There he is!
His mother had that fake undertone of happiness that made Ominis grit his teeth. It sounded more like an ill attempt at concealing her irritation, although he wasn't sure what got her in a sour mood this time.
- Here I am.
There was no questioning what his next move needed to be, so instead of joining his parents on the balcony overlooking the Black Lake, he stood beside Serafina and placed a hand on her waist.
As soon as his hands made contact with the fabric of her dress, he remembered a promise he made only minutes ago. It had been foolish to promise something like that as if it would have no consequences. However, a sickening feeling lodged in his throat just by smelling Serafina's perfume. It was too sweet. Too innocent, even.
His senses were screaming/begging for the scent of old tomes, spilt ink, and hot chocolate. It was a familiar scent that had recently turned softer, in contrast to the wild one Mc carried around after spending her days in the forest. Now, it was more accessible and not as forbidden as it once felt.
His body reacted bashfully to his thoughts about her. Just minutes had passed, and he already wanted her between his arms.
- Ominis, dear. Serafina came all the way to Hogwarts to surprise you. Isn't that just... lovely?
Ominis merely smiled briefly at the woman hanging on his arm, and her grip became more insistent.
- Hi, Omi. Are you happy I am here?
He felt everyone's eyes on him.
- It's Ominis, Serafina. Please be mindful of how you publicly address me – both Corvinus and Nefari nodded at Ominis's demand. And, of course, I am happy.
Contrary to most people's beliefs, Serafina's smile did not waver since it was common for couples to display power battles in front of others.
- I thought you would be – she looked at her future mother-in-law -. He didn't want me to exert myself by coming here, but I couldn't resist. It's my first time here, and the castle is lovely.
Corvinus sneered at Ominis' obvious annoyance at her disobedience.
- I agree, my dear – Nefari petted the hand perched on Ominis' bent arm -. Durmstrang was my first choice, but Hogwarts is part of Gaunt's family traditions. You better get used to it since I expect a significant progeny from you two.
Again, Serafina's smile didn't falter.
- Of course, Mrs. Gaunt. I am hoping, however, that Omi... Ominis will give me a tour of the grounds. It's enchanting.
The mentioned had to physically stop a sigh to escape him. The whole ordeal was taxing.
- It'll have to be some other time, Serafina. The school is too big for a rushed visit.
- Ominis, don't be rude! – Said Mrs Gaunt's shrill voice.
- It is all right! I'll be happy just walking around the courtyard with you. Perhaps you can catch me up on its history and introduce the whole House's concept. It's most intriguing.
She looked at him dreamily.
- If you insist – her closeness was giving him anxiety.
- I mean, I am not entirely oblivious. I know you were placed in... Slithering, was it?
He smiled with boredom.
- That's right. Good for you, remembering my ancestor's last name.
This time, her mask fell. Just for a second, but long enough to feed the Gaunt patriarch's condescending stare.
