- You are a jerk.
The wizard chuckled while pulling the end of the cover to keep her comfortable. The comforter was barely thick enough to keep her warm, but he knew she would probably kick it off her in the middle of the night.
- You said you were going to kill me.
- Well, you do sound half-dead. Mission accomplished?
MC giggled while looking at the ceiling. It was spinning, or rather, rocking side to side. Her neck also moved in the same direction to mirror the sway, which, to her understatement, would fend off the nausea.
- How did you know I needed you? – His smell enveloped her like a blanket.
Ominis took his time to answer, forcing her to twist her neck to look at him. His beauty marks were on full display for her to count them, and her eyes shone dreamily.
- We heard about what happened to Byberg – his voice softened while tucking her.
- Thank you – her eyes got misty, and she felt an uncomfortable weight on her chest.
Her hands came up to cover her face, and a wave of nausea made her vision swim.
- I am so sorry, darling.
- I... I had just spoken to him– her voice was muffled.
- I didn't realize you were so close – he was standing beside the bed, unsure what to do.
- We weren't. He was grumpy, and... and...
- And?
- He was good. He listened to me, and he... had... good ideas.
She cringed at how messy her speech was and how she couldn't organize her ideas. MC wanted to tell him how Byberg had helped her. The things he taught her, even when he wasn't supposed to. How she respected him, and how she felt respected by him. How lonely she felt now that her only ally was gone.
- I wanted him to teach me more – her arms were heavy. Her entire body felt numb and fatigued.
- I am so sorry you had to go through tonight– his slender fingers combed her hair -. I can't promise everything will be fine, but I am here for you. Whatever it means, whatever you want it to mean... you can always count on me. Okay?
- Okay.
- Now, please rest. I'll come back tomorrow to check on you – Ominis lowered his body and kissed her head-. Have a good night.
After placing the cover over her legs, he turned reluctantly around and headed for the door. The candles were still on, giving the room a golden glow.
- I left your water on the kitchen counter.
- Wait – She struggled against the cover and the nausea to sit up – Come lay with me!
A jolt travelled from her words and straight to his groin. Pain materialized in expression, and a bed of sweat formed on his nape.
- You don't want to? – She pouted.
The wizard walked closer to her and sat at the edge of the bed. The springs complained once he managed to find a comfortable position that allowed him to face her.
- Of course, I want to.
- Then stay – she placed her hand on his face but still had trouble focusing on his face -. I want... I want...
- Please stop – he took her hand and kissed her open palm.
- Ominis...
- I want you too, darling. But not like this – he pushed her down again, glad she offered no resistance -. I am not even sure you'll remember this when you wake up.
