After a long, long day of playing games and having fun, the sun began to fall over the butterfly mansion. Tanjiro was asleep already, after Shinobu had attended to his wounds. The other slayers were turning in for bed as well, and the veranda of the mansion became abandoned.
Kanao opened the sliding door slowly and sat on the veranda, admiring the sun fall below the clouds gently. The dying sun cast a rich, golden light over the entire mansion. Kanao was nearly too enamored in the sight that she almost didn't notice Nezuko open the door and sit beside her.
"Kan... Kanao?"
"Yes?" She turned, looking Nezuko in the eyes. Kanao was almost taken aback by how different she looked in the dying, golden light. Nezuko was painted warmly in the sun, with a flush of red over her cheeks.
"About... last time... I spoke..." Nezuko nervously looked down at her lap, fidgeting with her clawed thumbs.
Kanao's eyes got wide.
Oh no... maybe I did upset her...
"Kanao... thank you... thanks..." Nezuko whispered.
"Hm?" Kanao was confused, "For... what?"
"Lis... tening... to me..." Nezuko turned her head farther, the redness covering her face. "Even though you... not understand."
"Of course." Kanao said. "So I didn't upset you?"
"No..." A weight lifted off of Kanao's shoulders. Nezuko spoke again, softer this time, "I was... trying to tell you..."
Kanao moved closer slightly, listening to her words. Tell me what? She wondered.
"That day..." Nezuko sighed shakily, and it appeared that she was nervous. She didn't look at Kanao, trying to hide the flush on her face. "Eh..."
Kanao softly murmured, "I won't be bothered if you tell me something you think may upset me," she offered.
"No! No, not that..." Nezuko looked at her in the eyes, her face red like a cherry. "Wanted to tell you... that day... that I..." Nezuko felt breathless, her heart skipping beats. "That I... I have crushed on you for very long now..."
Kanao's heart nearly exploded, her eyes were wider than the moon in shock and her face turned just as red as Nezuko's.
"I understand If you not feeling the same..." Nezuko whispered.
Kanao's mind began to drown itself in thoughts:
WE DID IT!!!
SHE LIKES US!!
YESS!
THIS IS AMAZING!!
SHIT, WE HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING OR SHE'LL THINK WE'RE REJECTING HER!
Kanao snapped back to reality.
She grapped Nezuko's hand and, with an exploding heart, nodded quickly, "I do- I mean, I have- So do I- I- I feel the same."
Her brain swamped again.
AWWWW! DID WE MESS IT UP?
WAS THAT THE WRONG REPLY?
WE STUTTERED!
"I- I like you too, Nezuko... I... I really, really do..." She murmured.
Kanao leaned down slightly, and Nezuko forward. And in the light of the dying sun, finally setting below the horizon, they kissed. Time slowed down. Celebrations went off in both of their minds, and their reddened skin only intensified. By the time they slowly pulled away, each girl was crimson.
Nezuko smiled with her fangs, and Kanao with her teeth. Nezuko opened her arms and grabbed Kanao in a hug, almost toppling her over with the force of the hug.
