Ice Cream

Three days into her break, Taylor was finding herself enjoying life in the suburbs. Travis was mostly settled into his new place now, and she had been excited to come straight home to see it after her final show of the year. She had helped to pick out some of the new furniture, and Travis had asked her to help him decorate for Christmas, so it was really starting to feel like her home too. The new place was much more secluded than Travis's old house, located in a gated community in a suburb of Kansas City. She was certainly grateful for the privacy to start her holiday break, feeling comfortable enough to step out into the backyard with the dogs this morning without fears of photos going viral.

She was currently curled up on the couch, Olivia at her side and Rambo at her feet. Benjamin was busy tormenting the birds on the other side of the window, and Meredith was off sulking somewhere, not pleased to be living in a household with dogs suddenly. Travis was busy trying to get himself ready for the day, despite how badly he wanted to just stay in pajamas and spend time with Taylor after a few weeks spent apart. But since he hadn't moved his office setup to the new house yet, he would have to spend the morning at the old house to record the podcast. After talking it over last night, they decided it would be best for Taylor to stay at the new place, getting some work of her own done while Travis was busy.

"Hey babe?" Travis called from the top of the stairs, popping out of the bedroom to get Taylor's attention.

"What's up?" she answered, getting up from her place on the couch.

"Can you check what we need for dinner tonight? I'll stop at the store on my way home. And add whatever you want for snacks or sweets," he called back.

"Oh sure. Do you still want me to make pasta tonight? I can start simmering the sauce while you're gone. I think we have everything for that. Which store are you going to?" she asked.

"I was thinking I'd probably just hit the place down the street, they should have all the basics we need. Why, do you want something specific?"

"There's this ice cream I really like at Trader Joe's, and I saw we passed one on the way back from the airport. But if it's out of the way, I can send one of the guys to pick it up for us," Taylor said shyly.

"I don't mind stopping. Just let me know which flavor you want and I'll pick some up for us," he said warmly, earning a huge grin from Taylor.

Later that afternoon, Travis arrived home to the smell of garlic roasting in the kitchen, Christmas music playing softly as Taylor put the finishing touches on a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Coming home to find Taylor so comfortable in his home would never fail to take his breath away. Seeing her in her element, her hair up in a messy bun, following a recipe she had found while mindlessly scrolling through Pinterest earlier that morning. He made his way into the kitchen, placing the bags of groceries onto the counter before wrapping Taylor in an embrace, kissing her softly when she turned around to face him. As they broke apart, Taylor spotted the flowers he had left on the counter, letting out a small gasp at the sight.

"I saw those as I was in line to check out, and I thought you might like them," he said softly.

"Thank you, my love. They're beautiful. Do you have a vase I can put them in?" she asked.

"I'll grab one. But first, I want to just hold you for a minute. I missed you today," he admitted, burying his face in her hair as he held her close.

"Mhm. No arguments here. I missed you too. It's really nice being back home with you," Taylor mumbled.

It had happened suddenly, but being with Travis really was home for her now. It hadn't even been a question if she would be heading out to visit him as soon as she got back from Brazil, there was nowhere else she would rather be. Spending the night wrapped in her boyfriend's strong arms, she had slept better than she had in weeks. It was all the little things he did to make her feel normal and loved that stood out the most to her. Something as simple as taking an extra trip to the store to buy her favorite ice cream, or remembering her coffee order. But her favorite thing about Travis was that just the simplest of touches from him were enough to ground her, silencing her racing mind. He truly brought her peace, and for the first time ever, she felt like maybe she was able to do the same for him.
