An arid landscape stretched before them, the soil beneath their feet bearing a distinct reddish hue, cracked and parched from the absence of rain and a harsh dry wind blowing across them. The scorching heat intensified the urgency for survival essentials – water, food, and shelter. Haerin's instincts surged, a stark realization that they were ill-equipped for the harsh conditions, she took off her jacket and stayed in a lighter shirt.

Conversely, Dani remained a picture of composure, her gaze fixed on the arid lands with a determination that hinted at deeper knowledge. Haerin, rassling with immediate survival concerns, expressed her worry. "This can't be it, right?" she queried. "We will die out here, of dehydration or heatstroke," she added.

In response, Dani, maintaining her calm demeanor, offered a seemingly inconsequential correction. "We will  be fine, I just need to find them."

Haerin looked to Dani, her eyes were met with the familiar gleam Dani's always parried; "We will be fine," echoed again, this time penetrating her very existence. Haerin nodded and decided to pose a more proactive question.

"Do you have any inkling of our destination?" she queried.

"No," replied Dani with brevity, "but our path leads us to the guardian of this place."

"Someone dwells in these harsh conditions?" Haerin's curiosity overcame her unease.

"Yes, and in finding them, we may also uncover a clue to Kazuha's whereabouts as well as the exit to the Nibium."

"Where might we find them?"

"I cannot say. Let us traverse the terrain for now, and I shall seek signs that may guide us."

"Could Kazuha truly be concealed amidst these rocky crags?" Haerin thought as her gaze swept across the desolate landscape before settling on Dani, who had come to a halt. The wind, once relentless, ceased abruptly, leaving behind an eerie stillness. Dani communicated without words; they were not alone. Instinctively, Haerin's hand found the hilt of her katana, a companion almost forgotten. Open ground among stout boulders offered no hiding place, yet an unsettling intuition lingered.

Bending low, Dani touched the earth, her gaze shifted sharply to the right. A circular motion of her hand initiated a dance of sand, forming a whirlwind ready to strike an unseen foe.

"Reveal yourself, we mean no harm," she declared.

A response emerged as an ethereal whisper, "The last one uttered such words, and look at what she did to me." An invisible figure materialized—a woman with sand grains delicately swirling around her lightly rocky outline, her skin cracked like a dried-up riverbed. Azure eyes peered beneath a long white shawl, contrasting the rough exterior. Haerin, prone to jest, might dub her an Earthen Muse, but beneath the ruggedness, a delicate grace resonated, accentuated by flowing white hair.

Dani genuflected upon sight, a gesture Haerin found perplexing. Her amazement lingered until a small piece of rock struck her ankles, prompting a wince. Dani's stern look conveyed an unspoken directive—kneel.

Haerin hesitated momentarily, still rubbing her sore ankle, before reluctantly lowering herself to one knee. The Earthen Woman observed them with a hint of amusement in her eyes.

"I am Karina, the Guardian of the Whispering Sands," she declared in a voice that echoed like distant winds through a canyon. "What brings you to this place?"

Dani, maintaining his respectful posture, spoke, "We seek the whereabouts of Kazuha. She may have passed through here recently."

Karina's gaze shifted between them as if reading the depths of their intentions. The sand continued to dance within her form, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. "Kazuha, that wandering fool," she jeered. "She has left not just traces, they are veiled each time the sand shifts. Finding her is not a simple task."
