BFO Headquarters

April10

What occurred to Derns, which wasn't a complete secret to the rest of theteam, was that Monster would have permanent scars from Sheriff Molis' gun. Since Cooper was gone and Bruce Easlen seemed busy, he decided to go to BFO Headquarters to see if Marcus Berthington had thewounds.

This had some encouragement from Dr. Raymond, who suggested checking the millionaire out first due to his high influence on the city. Derns had wanted to check Anthony Garfield first, though. That would have to come later.

What he figured was that Mr. Berthington would not in any means be happy to see him. He didn't care, though. With ghastly wounds in his elbow and back, it should be obvious of his guilt or innocence. So what he expected from this meeting was a somewhat disgruntled Berthington who would be hesitant.

Arriving at his office, Derns knocked. He was patient, but was eager for theresult. Instead of receiving the six-foot blond man, a surprisingly tiny man with glasses came to the door.

"Can I help you?" The man asked.

"Yes. I'd like to see Mr. Berthington," Derns told him.

"I'm sorry, but he can't meet you right now. He's in a different appointment," the man replied.

"That's funny," Derns sneered. "Because I called five minutes ago, and Berthington himself said he could see me. Now why would that change?"

The man was initially at a loss of words.

"Sir, he met with employees to discuss the estimated expenditures for health support over the next year," the man said.

"Sounds important—but I do need to speak with him," Derns said, dismissing the man's explanation.

"Again, I'm sorry," the man said, closing the office doors on him.

"So I wasn't allowed to see him, unfortunately," Derns explained. "Damn assistant or someone said he was discussing expenditures."

"That's fine for now," Dr. Raymond said.

"We need to bug the phones of all the suspects," Derns said.

"Already did that," Chief Leonard said.

"We also need to keep surveillance on Marcus Berthington. The way he suddenly scheduled that meeting at the last minute is suspicious," Derns ordered.

"If you say so," Sheriff Molis said. He walked away, presumably to his car.

"What about the other suspects? We're going to watch them too right?" Dr.Raymond asked.

"Of course," Chief Leonard said, taking her phone out.

As soon as word got out to Chief Leonard that Bruce Easlen had been viciously attacked in Marlon Cemetery, she rounded up her team andheaded there straight away. Seeing as the cemetery was just outside Clearwater Forest, Monster could have hurt him while escaping.
