The rain was coming down hard as Hanji guided Floch and his loyal Jaegerists towards the Forest of Giant Trees, where Levi should be watching over Zeke. As they crossed a wooden bridge over a rapid river, they heard a loud bang sound going off in the distance, along the bank of the river. Hanji and the Jaegerists all halted their horses and looked off in the direction of the noise.

Jaegerist: Wh-What the–? What was that? Thunder maybe?

Hanji: (Thoughts) A Thunder Spear... But why?

Concern grew inside the commander as she peered through the veil of rain. Floch looked at Hanji and noticed how her body shifted with worry and trepidation. He then spoke up, making a decision.

Floch: Let's head in that direction.

A distance away, the cart was in shambles as the last living horse neighed painfully as it slowly died. Zeke lay on the grass, two-thirds of his body reduced to ash.

Zeke: (Thoughts) It's so quiet. Am I... dying?

As Zeke rested motionless on the wet grass, a Pure Titan crawled out from the forest, heading for the blonde man. When it got close to him, the Pure Titan sat up, dug its nails into its fatty gut, and pulled as hard as possible. The flesh of the Titan burst open in a shower of blood as its intestines spill out, painting the green grass red. Reaching down, the Titan grabbed ahold of what was left of Zeke Jaeger and stuffed him deep inside the warm bloody confines of the Titan's tummy.

Inside the Military HQ in Shiganshina, Pixis sat at one end of a table, an untouched plate of food resting in front of him. Yelena sat opposite him on the other end of the dining room table, with Onyankopon and the rest of the volunteers sitting around eating the dinner prepared for them.

Yelena: "The day will soon come when we sit at the same table once again." Has it not happened exactly as I said it would? Commander Pixis? (The older man didn't respond) Please let me thank you for taking such swift action. Not only have you forbidden your troops from resisting us, but in accordance with our demands, you've also assembled every soldier you have right here in Shiganshina.

Pixis: Considering the trick you pulled with the spinal fluid, we didn't have much of a choice. Zeke could turn us into Titans at any moment. And Shiganshina had been evacuated, so it's the only safe place for us to be. In any case. What else could I do, (Looking to his right to a fellow comrade of his, holding a gun in his shaky hand) with so many old comrades pointing guns at my back?

Garrison Officer: (Frightened) Please forgive me, Commander Pixis. My son drank the wine, too. I'm doing this to protect him.

Pixis: (Looking deep into his old friend's eyes) When did you first betray us?

Yelena: (Speaking up, stopping the officer) You've no obligation to answer that.

Garrison Officer: (Looking down, ashamed) I'm sorry.

Pixis: I only ask because the time at which you changed sides seems to affect your standing in this new regime. (Moving his stern gaze over to the side of the room where a Scout recruit leaned against the wall) Betray us early, and you're rewarded with a white armband. It marks you as a proud Jaegerist, correct? (Looking back to his old Garrison comrade) Red armbands are used to mark those who were coerced into aiding the Jaegerists, after learning they had drunk tainted wine. And finally. (Looking down at his own arm where a black armband resided) These black armbands mark the rest of us as ignorant fools who drank the wine without suspecting something was amiss. (Looking up at the tall blonde woman sitting across from him) I can't help but be reminded of Marley. They employed a similar system when they took over your homelands, did they not?
