Chapter 69- Beside The Campfire

Jean is up sitting on his bed, leaning against the wall, thinking about a life he could have, starting a family now that he wouldn't have to fight anymore but was interrupted by Hange, who was knocking on the window.

Hange: Jean. It's me. We're waiting outside.

Jean(thoughts) I didn't hear anything... I didn't hear that... Don't go...Don't think...That if you just stay here, that prime central real estate is yours...If I just stay here...

Jean: ...

Elsewhere, Mikasa was outside standing with Hange, when they heard footsteps, and saw Jean walking up to them.

Hange: Glad you could join us, Jean.

Hange then led the three of them to a room in a destroyed building.

Hange: Mikasa has filled me in on the situation. I'm sorry I couldn't have been here on the ground... You've done a great job in this grueling situation. As for Levi, he's alive because of Tony's sacrifice but is still injured. Also, we've joined forces with the remaining forces of Marley including the Cart Titan.

Both Jean and Mikasa were surprised by this, but Mikasa clenched her fists at the mention of the Cart Titan.

Hange: We've decided to put aside our differences and called a truce in order to stop Eren.

Mikasa: Stop Eren? How?

Hange: We need to rally Leon and the others. After that, we can come up with our next plan of action. But with the collapse of the military, our numbers will be few. And as it stands, I'm longer your Commander. So I will understand if you don't-

Mikasa: I'll do it.

Jean and Hange looked at Mikasa shocked.

Mikasa: I'll do whatever it takes to get my children back.

Hange: Mikasa...

Jean: Even if we were able to stop Eren from killing everyone outside of Paradis...What then?

Mikasa and Hange looked at him confused.

Jean: Even if Eren maintains the Founders power or if Leon manages to take the power of the Founder.... Eren only has 4 years left, and Leon may only have weeks if not days.

Mikasa looked down at the ground with a depressed look, thinking of Leon's eventual death. Hange tensed up as well thinking of her nephew.

Jean: What will happen to this island after their times are up? The world's hatred for us won't disappear overnight. We'll have to keep facing it for decades...To stop Eren would be to destroy this island.

Hange: I think Marley would look at the situation and assume the Rumbling would activate the moment they try to attack the island. At the very least, I can't see them laying a hand on this place for a good while. Also do we have Atalaan as our ally, with their help we wouldn't be alone in war with Marley.

Jean: Even with Atalaan as our allies, Marley will think the world could end at any moment unless they wipe out this island off the map. It'll do even more to incite them all then Willy Tybur's speech!

Hange: You may be right. But we have time even in this hypothetical situation of yours. We should be able to buy ourselves a few years of time, even if they come to destroy the island.
