Chapter 5

The sun was shinning through a crack in the curtains, MJ woke up with a startled scream. Remembering last night and the wolf at her window, "rise and shine sleepy head" dad said with enthusiasm "it's your first day back at school!" "Ugg already "MJ said with a sigh, the smell of waffles and fish bacon filled the house. Cruise wandered down the hall, half asleep. "What kind of bacon is it today?" he asked his mom. "It's a new kind, they call it Flakin', it's made out Coy skin." She said, looking at the bacon package. "Blech" Cruise fake gagged to MJ as they made their way towards the kitchen together. "Cruise, what is school like these days?" MJ asked as they pulled out their chairs at the kitchen counter. "Well, its pretty much same except after people heard about the accident there were rumours that our family had some curse so a lot of people avoid us now, which is great! The "cool" kids leave me alone, I even farted as I walked by Aloysius and his group of jerks and they didn't even flinch, and it was loud!" Cruise laughed as he took a piece of Flakin that mom was pushing on to his plate. MJ smiled as mom put 2 pieces on her plate. "Give it a try, both of you. We need to find alternative proteins, pig meat is illegal after that group of pigs took over Airforce One last spring, crashed it into the pentagon." Mom said. "I'm sorry what?" MJ asked. "Have you packed your lunches kids?" Mom asked. MJ's mouth dropped. "so that's it? Just ignoring pigs crashing a plane, eh?" MJ said. "I packed a sack of schmeckles, Chungus and I are going to Fester's corner store for Blobfish on a stick and I promised him a yak milk smoothie."

Cruise looked into his bathrobe pocket, Chungus stretched and opened his mouth like a baby bird. Cruise snuck the Flakin off his plate and gave it to him. "I haven't made my lunch yet mom, sorry. I'm not in the routine yet." MJ said. "That's okay sweetie, I made lunch for you already, it's in the fridge" Mom said. "LILY! where's my left sock it was on the bed a second ago!" dad said from down the hall "Daniel for gosh sake, look on the floor, kids go get dressed" mom said. "it's not there "dad said mockingly "if I find it you're going to be in big trouble Mr." Mom said. MJ's thoughts drifted off, she walked to her bedroom, leaving the argument about socks behind. She was thinking about last night, what if the wolf knew something she didn't? Why did he know she was home? Who told him? Whatever it was she didn't want to find out on her first day back at school. MJ went through her closet, looking for something that would help her blend in. MJ pulled out her platform running shoes, they were too small. She pulled out a sweater and tried pulling it over her head, too small. She grabbed a pair of jeans, they made it to her knees. "Mom, I can't go to school! I have no clothes that fit me! I am not going naked again." MJ yelled. "Ewww. Don't say that in front of the nestlings, they are just developing and their eyes will be blinded!" Cruise yelled back. "Sweetie, check my closet, you might be able to fit my clothes." Mom said. "Ummm... alright I guess." MJ looked at herself in the mirror, she was definitely bigger than before, but she hadn't really notice until she put on her old clothes. She stuck her robe on and snuck across the hall to her mom and dad's room. There right in the middle of the floor was the sock her dad "lost". MJ decided to kick it under the bed to stop World War 4. She opened her mom's closet, there on the top shelf was a vintage sweat suit that her mom wore during track and field in high school. "Perfect! Thanks mom!" MJ tossed it on and took a look at herself. "Yes. A-mazing." MJ said as she curled her hair around her fingers. "I'm ready to go to school "MJ said as she ran down hall. "hey, mom what do you think of this?" MJ struck a pose. "Oh, that looks familiar. I wore that the day I met your dad. It's a lucky sweat suit, that's the reason I kept it all these years." Mom said. "Oh, it's in good nick for fifty." MJ said as she grabbed her backpack and left the room. "Cheeky creature, it's barely 20 years old... wow, 20 years..." Mom said. Dad entered the room. "you look better every day my love." Dad said kissing her on the top of her head. "Get a room", Cruise said as he grabbed his bag off the hook and walked out. "Do you guys want a lift or are you walking today?" Mom asked. "Ride!" Cruise said. There was a thump on the front door and then it swung open, hitting Dante on the nose. "Honey I'm home!" Lee yelled. Dante sneezed and got up slowly sniffing Lee's pockets for treats. "Here buddy, enjoy!" Lee pulled a piece of Cod Flakin from his pocket. Dante took it gently and reluctantly, scowling at him as he walked out into the yard. "Lily can I get a ride today?" Lee asked. "Sure can, we are leaving in 5. MJ and Cruise are in the living room playing Corn Runner...something, I don't know..." Mom said filling her to go cup with coffee. "Corn Runner Zombies, yes! My mom took mine away last Thursday, whoop whoop!" Lee said as he ran down the hall. "Hey Lee, do you want to jump in? We are just heading to pond 7, we have the Corn zombies on our tail and need health pronto." Cruise said. "I'm way ahead of you man!" Lee said scanning his watch on the console to enter the game. "Morning MJ, bet you missed this! Not on my watch you zombie jerks! " Lee yelled. "First day back at school, you nervous?" He asked "A little, but more nervous about these Corn Zombies eating my brains." MJ said. "Who is this fool? Think you can come into our house and take our TNT." Lee's character shot another in the game. "No, that's my dad. He is going to kill you man!" Cruise said. Lee's eyes widened as he clicked to exit the game. "What the heck guys?" Dad yelled from the bathroom. "I was so close to getting the dragon flame upgrade and now I have to start back in the village barn. Three weeks to get here!". The toilet flushed and he came storming into the room. "Cruise, was that you?" He asked. Cruise pointed a finger towards Lee as he sat dodged it, and it landed on MJ. "Oh sorry MJ, just getting used to all this again hey kid." Dad said. "Umm... yeah, I am a bit rusty I guess, thought you were a zombie. Sorry dad." MJ said as she clicked out of the game, side eyeing a relieved Lee. "Well, time to head out." Mom said "grab your things and shake a leg guys." Dad said, kissing Mj on the top of her head. "see you after work, I'll be home around 6, just have to pop by Ken's to pick up the latest copy of Kitty Kitty Daycare." Dad said. "I'm sorry what was that?" Cruise asked. "Kitty Kitty daycare?" "It's a new game for Wildplay, they have some kinks that they want me to consult on." Dad said. "I've never been prouder of you father." Cruise patted his shoulder. "Get out of here!" MJ, Lee and Cruise ran out the door. "Backpacks!" Dad said. "Shotgun" Cruise said. Cruise ran to the truck, and opened the door to find Dante asleep on the passenger seat. "Move over Dante!" Cruise said as he shoved his butt towards the driver's seat. Dante got up, jumped over the seat and out the back window. Mom responded to cruise with a frown "you're in the back, MJs in the front. Off to school we go." mom said.
