CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

102 2 1

I'm alone in the dark as the snow falls, the only light being the shine of the moonlight peering down at me as if it's a mother protecting her child at all costs. I slowly look up to her, rifle in hand as the wind pushes the snow across the icy plains as some ice particles slice at my face as if I'm an intruder on their territory.  My eyes close for a moment as I lift my head to the sky before taking in a deep icy breath, the ice needles prickling my lungs, transforming the cold air into a bundle of fog as I release the trapped air. My eyes slowly open, seeing the darkening sky and the stars and moons light starting to taint the sky in its usual beauty.

"Delta 6, copy." My radio blurs a female voice. It's taking some time getting use to my new code name, it's like a rebranding due to too many people finding out who the reaper is. Ever since the Task Force, I let my guard down for my code name, not realizing it was going to be a big problem. So, the reaper needs to die soon, and Delta 6 might just be my new code name. What a shame.
"Sniper in area, stay weary, Delta. Over."
"Copy that."  I answer the voice again, my gun up as I walk through the forest. The dead frozen leaves crunch under my feet, alongside the ice frozen grass.

"Anything to report on, Delta?" The radio says as my eyes search the darkened forest, gun up ready to shoot if necessary.
"Nothin out-" everything turns slow as I just notice the glistening of a distant rifle scope, a bullet scaling past my face, scrapping through the flesh of my cheek.

My body jumps awake, the sound of my jacket falling to the ground echos in the room as I used it as a blanket. My lungs force in air, the icy air once again, as if someone was withholding the need to breathe. My eyes dart from one corner of the room to the other before raising my hand to my cheek. One scar from Ghost and a newer one from that rife bullet fuller closer to my ear. I move my hand to my ear, a chunk of my cartilage taken off from the exact bullet. A breath releases from my chest, my eyes closing as I let my hand fall back to my laps before swinging my legs over this god-awful bedding surface. At least I'm alive right?
I push myself off the bed, taking the jacket and putting it back on properly before a race of warmth hits me, realizing that I'm leaving for a week today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

"Aye, just kiss the lad, lass. We all know." Soap says with a short laugh.
"He's got a point." Gaz says, backing up soaps remark, a laugh slightly bursting past my expression.
"It's just a week. Nothing big." I tell him, a smile still painted on my face as I back away from him slightly, my hands behind my back as an automatic response to a higher up, especial someone like Ghost.

"I know, darlin. Just be careful out there." His words take my breath for a hot second. I don't remember him calling me 'darling' and if he ever did then I'm stupid as dog shit. It sounds so sweet coming from his covered lips. The same lips that he would only ever willingly show me.
"Y/N!" Captain Price calls my name, my head instantly turning to him as he walks back into the area, his hands grasping together in front of him.
"They're ready for you, darlin." He continues, his head softly nodding telling me to take as long as I want and can while also being respectful of the time. I turn back to Ghost, giving him a smile as I walk backwards, his head softly giving me the same nod. I turn mt body around to Price while going Soap and Gaz a short nod and a smile while I follow the captain to the helicopter.
"Laswell has everything sorted for you." He starts as we walk.
"You don't have to worry about anything but to relax and give yourself some time. You haven't had that in a long time I've heard."  He continues before stopping at the entrance of the aircraft facing me once more.
"Don't do anything I wouldn't do, dear." He says under his breath.
"Of course. It's just a week anyway."
A moment passes as we both stand before I quickly lean to the captain, giving him a hug. I know this is out of codex, but I don't care. the way he has respected me and given me so much comfort is unimaginable as a woman in this field. I feel his arms softly and slowly hugging me back, feeling his need to stay respectful.
"Thank you, captain." I say under my breath.
"You're welcome, dear. just stay out of trouble, keep to yourself." He says while patting my back before we release from the embrace. I nod my head at his remark as I step back.
"Of course, sir." I say before turning to the helicopter, finally boarding it, strapping myself in before looking back over to the group. Price, Gaz, Soap and Ghost all stay and watch as We lift off into the air.

I let my head lean against the wall of the helicopter my eyes closing as I let out another breath before dozing off into a sleep.

                         ----------

I watch as the clouds disappear as we lower to the helicopter landing area, feeling the slow dip in my chest as we lower. I remember when I use to feel so sick up in the air like that, minimum security and safety. Looking at it still, it's extremely dangerous but I guess that's why it was part of our training.

"Sergeant L/N!?" A man calls out as I step off the helicopter, my eyes instantly locked on him. He's in marine uniform, obviously not part of any secret services or the SAS itself.

"Names Keegan."
