Stefan woke up and looked around. He panicked. He felt like if he was dead. He didn't know, where he was. There was some wooden shelter, in which he probably stayed over the night.
His attention turned to his shirt and a red blood stain shining on it. He touched his chest. How was he even alive? Hadn't he gotten shot? Yes, he had gotten shot. The thoughts were screaming over each other. There were so many questions.
Then he noticed a huge blue ring on his finger with an S on it. He was examining it and more thoughts popped up in his mind. He needed answers. He knew he would get them, when he heard Emily, "Katherine had me make that for you weeks ago."

"Where am I?" Stefan asked.

"The quarry, just north of town. My brother and I brought you here last night. We found you dead in the woods."

"Where's Damon?" Stefan wanted to know what had happened to his older brother. Emily looked towards the water that the quarry was filled with. Stefan turned in that direction. Damon was sitting on the shore staring into the water, in which the sun's rays were reflecting.

"And what about Alice?" Stefan needed to know what was gonna happen to his sister. He needed to see her and talk to her.

"You need to let her go. You won't see her ever again," Emily replied. That was the answer he didn't want to hear. Stefan shook his head, "But, no, I-I have to-"

"You need to let your sister live her human life and stay dead for her."

"No, she needs to-" Stefan wanted to protest. He wanted to see his little sister.

"You don't want to hurt her, or do you, Stefan?" Emily asked.

"I would never hurt her," he confronted to her.

"I know you wouldn't, Stefan. But the urge to feed would be too strong and you wouldn't be able to control it," Emily explained. "You could kill her. Believe me, Stefan. It's better she thinks you're dead." Stefan looked down at the ground sadly. How was he supposed to just let go? He loved his sister. He couldn't just leave her. He had to tell her.

Stefan walked over to Damon, who seemed like if his soul leaved his body. Damon didn't even look at him and started talking, "I woke up last night and didn't know where I was. I went to the church. I watched them drag her inside. Then they set fire to it. And the whole church went up in flames." He looked up to his younger brother, "They killed her, Stefan. She's gone." Damon was devastated. He loved Katherine. He had wanted to spend the eternity with her. Now he couldn't. Because she was dead. Nothing made sense for him without her.

Stefan was also sad. He took the information in better. Thanks to Emily, he knew he had actually never loved her. She had compelled him. Unlike Damon, who hadn't needed to be compelled. He was obsessed with her. But Stefan knew the truth about his love for her.

I was sitting in my bed and looking in front of me. I had woken up like an hour ago, but I couldn't fall asleep again. I kept seeing Stefan's and Damon's death repeating over and over. It was like if they were dying on me once again. I saw father holding the gun. I ran to him in aim to stop him, but I was too slow. The first shot is heard. And the second right after.

I saw it all.

I stared into space in front of me absentmindedly. The stress and scare overwhelmed me. I was never gonna see my older brothers again. They were dead. And I could have prevented it. I could have stopped father. But I hadn't. It was my fault. I had let them get involved with Miss Katherine. She was the devil. She was the devil in disguise. I should have known better.
The blame and the quiet i my room was eating me alive slowly, when someone knocked on the door. My whole body tensed. I looked in that direction.

"Alice," my father's voice penetrated through the locked door into my room. I jumped out of my bed quickly and took the robe, which was thrown over the chair by the dressing-table.

"Are you all right?" he asked. I put the robe on. "Can I come in?"

"Yes. Yes!" I called on him. He walked in with maids at his heels. "Still in bed at this hour?" he questioned. I didn't say anything, just squinted my eyes, when the maid open the curtains and the sunlight sneaked in. She opened the window and let the fresh air fill the whole room.

"It's a beautiful day," father continued. "I have a gift for you." A gift? He had a gift for me? For the past few days he had barely spoken to me. We had eaten lunch in silence and the rest of the days, he spent with Mr. Gilbert. I had been mostly alone; going for walks or reading and riding a horse.

He held a decorated, low box and opened it. There was a dress in it. I had never seen any like this was. "Oh, it's beautiful," I breathed out amazed and took the dress in my hands.

"Isn't it?"

"How did I deserve this?" I was very interested in his answer.

"I will tell you when you try it on," he replied. "Go on." I walked behind the screen and the maids were helping me put the dress on. Meanwhile, father started explaining the reason of the gift, "So, a certain gentleman spoke out. It seems he likes you very much." A certain gentleman. Great. He hadn't even seen me and he already liked me. How had he even found about me?

The maid pulled the strings on the corset and I gasped. Was it necessary to pull it that tight? How was I supposed to breath in it?

"Alice? How is it going?" father wanted to know.

"It's difficult to say," I was trying to keep taking in the air into my lungs.

"That certain gentleman sent this dress to you. I'm told it's the latest fashion in London," father explained. London?

"Well, women in London must have learned not to breath," I took in another deep breath. If I wasn't gonna faint from the lack of air, I would be surprised.

"Mr. Salvatore," a servant informed, "Mr. Gilbert is here." Father left and I had to endure the rest of the pulling and tightening and try to breath.

Later that day, father announced me he was sending me to England. He was about to send me to that man. I protested, "You can't send me to England." But there was no use. He was decided. "I can. You're leaving tomorrow. No more talking." I was so angry with him. He couldn't just send me to a different country. He couldn't send me to Europe.

Oh, but he could. He only wanted to get rid of me. This was his chance and he didn't want to waste it.
