Chapter 2: Who are you?

Hey, just a heads up from the author. It's getting kinda annoying having to write out Y/N and I think it'd be easier if I just write 'you' instead. So that's what imma do. Enjoy.

As The King yells out the command, the slug holds out the fiery stick, and puts in near the firewood.. but instead of lighting the wood, the ropes set alight instead! Noticing this, you yell out to Kris and the others.

"Hey! The rope's burning! Use this to escape!" Susie nods in response.

"Nghh.. ha!" She yells as she breaks the rope.

The creatures around you scowl, seeing as you interrupted the execution. The King rises out of his seat.

"NO! Do NOT let them get away! Slaughter them, along with their little friend over there!" He yells, pointing at you.

The crowd suddenly turns aggressive against you. One of the creatures in the crowd tries to shank you with a dagger, but they missed. Others followed suit, trying to attack you, but you seem to be faster and swifter in this new world. You got out quickly, to where all the action was happening.

You notice that Kris is looking around for their weapon, and they notice it off to the side near the entrance to the castle, along with Susie's axe. They rush over, trying to grab both of the weapons, but The King gets there first, and grabs them all in one scoop.

"Looking for this?" The King says, smiling. Using his own unique weapon, he attempts to stab Kris. Luckily, Kris dodges.

You run over to help, leaping up high, which even surprises you. Shaking the feeling of surprise away, you punch The King square in the jaw, which causes him to drop the weapons. Kris and Susie hastily pick up the weapons, and as they do so, you keep beating the living shit out of The King. "ENOUGH!" he yells, as he slams you down on the ground. You feel massive pain course through your entire body, and you cough up blood.

Well, you would of, but The King isn't finished with you yet. He begins to slam you down on the ground again, over and over again, then throws you away. You choke on your own blood, heavily wounded, half- dead. Kris and Susie take your place in the battlefield, getting in fighting stances with their weapons.

The stranger that was with Kris and Susie rushes over to you. He kneels down next to you and makes some strange hand signs with his paws, and you suddenly feel refreshed and healed. You look at your wounds, and are shocked to find out that every single one of them are gone. "What the...?" You say. You look over to the stranger who helped you. "Um, thanks for that. Who are you, anyway?"

The stranger smiles at you. "My name is Ralsei. Pleasure to meet you." You nod in response. "Thanks for healing my wounds. How d'you do it, anyway?" Ralsei responds with a simple response: "Magic."

"Woah, really? Maybe you could teach me some, once this whole thing's over-" You get interrupted by Susie grabbing you and dragging you across the ground. "Oi! Not to interrupt introductions or anything, but we're in the middle of a battle right now!" You notice that Kris has grabbed Ralsei, but he isn't being dragged across the floor like you. Instead, Kris has put him over their shoulder. Guess Susie just doesn't like me or something.. you think to yourself. You look back to the battlefield, and you see The King slamming his fists against the ground in anger, and his troops trying their best to follow you, to no avail.

"Guess we got away, then?" you say to the others. "Mhm," Susie mumbles in response. You all continue running nonetheless, trying to make as much distance between you all and the troops who are trying to follow you. Eventually, you all stop in a forest, tired, but alive.

While on the run, you took notice of yourself. You look different, with different clothes, even a greyish skin tone. The real reason why your punches did so much damage against The King wasn't because you're so strong (even though you ARE) but it was because of these brass knuckles you have on your hands. They seem to be made differently from the ones in your home world, at least from what you know. You're also wearing a black jacket with a hoodie, and wearing a grey bandana on your neck. Your pants have two pockets, one on each side, which you investigate once in the forest. Seems you have an odd looking grenade in one pocket, while the other one has nothing. Guess it's just for storage.

You go back to where the others are. Ralsei has managed to make a small campfire to stay warm. Kris and Susie are sitting around the fire with Ralsei, and they beckon you to join them. You sit down between Kris and Ralsei, and as you do so, Susie speaks. "Man, I still can't believe it's come down to this.." she says. "We were almost killed.. good thing you were there, Y/N," She thinks for a moment. "Hold on... what the hell are you even doing here in the first place?" You sigh as she asks the question. "You don't remember? Alphys told you and Kris to get chalk for this morning, and hours later and neither of you have returned. Alphys was getting worried, so she sent me to find you. I went to the closet that the chalk is stored in, and where you guys were supposed to go to, when I fell down a.. hole, I guess? Anyway, I came here, and found you guys.. about to be executed.." Susie nods in response to your answer. "Oh yeah, I forgot that Alphys told Kris and I to get chalk.. seems like a long time ago now.. well, whatever. None of that matters if we can't get through Lancer's dad, The King, and get back home," As Susie says that, your face turns to a mix of confusion and shock. "Wait a minute... your telling me we can't go home unless we kill The King?" Ralsei clears his throat and speaks. "We don't need to kill him, Y/N, just restrain him. And by the way, Kris, Susie, and I need to close that Dark Fountain over there so you all can leave," Ralsei points to a large, ominous, black portal-like structure in the distance.

"...Right... I was wondering what that was..." Ralsei nods. "Ah, Y/N, I don't believe I told you of the Legend of this world, have I?" You shake your head. "As I thought. Allow me to explain.."

Ralsei finishes his story. "And that's the prophecy of Delta Rune. Interesting, isn't it?" You nod slightly, still puzzled. "But, if the prophecy doesn't involve me, then how come I can't leave?" Ralsei shrugs, with a hint of sadness on his face. "I'm sorry, Y/N. I'm not sure. Maybe it's because you're not from this world.. besides, we still need to defeat The King to even get to the Fountain and close it," You look downwards as Ralsei finishes talking.

Maybe we're just doomed here.. You think to yourself. Kris and the others couldn't defeat him, so what could I possibly do? I tried fighting The King myself, and I just got smashed into the ground.. I almost died... You sigh, and shake your head, looking up. You push your worries to the back of your mind, and try to forget about them, at least for now. "Don't worry." you say, looking at Ralsei. "We'll save this world, defeat The King peacefully, and close the Dark Fountain.. well, you guys will close it, anyway," You smile, with determination blazing in your eyes. Ralsei smiles weakly, and Susie says "yeah,". Kris just nods.
