Derek arrived home and it was oddly quiet, he had expected his wife would be wheeling around to get Charlotte ready by now. The two older girls were ordered to get a shower and get dressed in their casual clothes

He walked further in the house when he recognized his wife's snores and frowned

"Mer?" He gently shook her awake

Mhmm.." She winced a bit as her back was still acting up

"It's 3.." Derek told her softly. "We need to head to mom and dad tonight."

"Shit-" Meredith muttered and pushed herself, pain shooting through her spine but she had to sit up

Derek saw her facial expression and immediately knew this wasn't good.

"Go take a shower, Em and Grace are too and meanwhile I'll get Carlie ready." Derek kissed her forehead

"Thank you." Meredith nodded, she really appreciated and was hopeful that the warm water would take away some of the achy and painful feeling that radiated through her spine

"Charlie, wakey wakey." Derek whispered while Meredith untangled herself from her daughter and got into her wheelchair

"Daddy!" The little girl smiled, still cuddling into her stuffed animal and the pillows

"Hey princess, let's get you ready to go see everyone. You're still in your pajamas, I wish I could wear mine as well." Derek chuckled and kissed Meredith's lips before walking off with his youngest daughter

Meredith sighed and slowly pushed herself to her own bedroom. She quickly took her own meds and grabbed some jeans and a sweater she could go out in. She was really hesitating to just skip the shower as it would at least mean less effort and less movement for her back but she had to, she really needed to wash her hair so she got herself undressed and into the shower

After a while she finished and heard the older girls running through the house. She started to dry off her body and got herself dressed in the bed as that was just the easiest but it didn't mean there was no struggling.

Her legs had been giving her a really bad time, almost to the point where she was doubting to get her legs strapped in together to prevent them from falling off the footplate and possibly injuring herself

"Mommy! Mommy!" She heard Grace yelling

"Gimme 5 minutes, mommy's coming!" She replied and sighed, quickly, or at least trying to, she put on her pants and got back into her wheelchair, wearing socks already but no shoes yet

Meredith quickly wheeled out of the room into he hallway

"Mommy! Daddy's taking ages!" Grace whined

"I'll go check. Why do you need him so urgently?" Meredith asked her daughter

"I'm bored, mommy! I wanna go to nana and poppa!" She smiled widely

"You're so impatient!" Meredith giggled and started wheeling off to Grace's bathroom

"Mama!" Grace smiled as she was wrapped in some warm towels while Derek started applying some cream onto her slightly sensitive skin

"Hey princess." Meredith smiled and wheeled up to her daughter, lifting her onto her lap

But Meredith hadn't noticed the lifting had caused her legs to start heavily spasming

"Mer-" Derek kneeled down and tried to hold them

"It's okay, they'll pass." She told him

"Have you slept enough? Or have you been lifting heavy stuff?" He asked her right away

"I'm fine, Derek."'she sighed, seeing how Charlotte got a bit uneasy as she saw her dad worrying but not understanding why

"I want you to rest tonight." Derek said sternly, he knew ever since Charlotte was born Meredith had overdone herself more often which wasn't unusual with three kids but she really needed to look better after herself, he didn't want her to end up at the hospital again

"I will, don't worry." Meredith rolled her eyes and wheeled to Charlotte's bedroom to get the girl dressed

"Let me do it, Mer. I'll be quick." He sighed, really just wanting her to take a break

"Whatever, Derek." She placed Charlotte on her bed and wheeled off, really annoyed by her husband's hoovering

She quickly wheeled off to see how Emma and Grace were doing

"Mommy! We're matching!" Emma giggled as she also wore jeans and a similar sweater

"We do." Meredith nodded and sighed softly, pulling both girls in for a hug

"Are you okay?" Emma noticed her mom was a bit down

"Of course, I can't wait to have nana's cookies!" Meredith forced a smile

...

A while later they had arrived at Carolyn and Christopher's house. The two oldest girls had ran inside while Charlotte was sitting on Meredith's lap as she was still waking up from her nap in the car

"Go on, let's go." Meredith smiled and started pushing herself up the ramp, pushing hard on her arms since Charlotte made her extra heavy now

"I wonder what mom made." Derek said, keeping an eye to make sure Meredith would make it

"Me too." Meredith said and made it up, then wheeled inside

"Hey guys!" Christopher hugged Meredith and Derek, then hugging little Charlotte

"Poppa!" She smiled tiredly

"She fell asleep in the car, she's still waking up." Meredith told her father while Derek hung up their coats

"Hey little munchkin, can I lift you? We'll go say hi to nana." Christopher asked

"Mama-" Charlotte muttered

"I'm coming too. Let poppa carry you, he wants to give you some very big hugs." Meredith told her

"Kay." Charlotte nodded and opened her arms so Christopher could grab her

"Let's go, maybe we can secretly steal a cookie already!" Christopher chuckled

"Not too many! She needs to have some dinner, dad.." Derek sighed

"Of course." Christopher walked off

"Let's go say hi to mom." Derek said

"I'll just remove my shoes for a bit, my legs were swollen earlier." Meredith muttered

"Have they been acting up?" Derek frowned

"A little, it's okay." Meredith quickly took off both sneakers and Derek immediately saw how swollen her feet were

"Why don't you go lay down and elevate your legs a little?" Derek suggested

"I will once I said hi to mom." She nodded and placed her feet down and wheeled off to the kitchen
