Meredith woke up because of pain in her stomach once again, she got up and wheeled to the bathroom to start her morning routine. Eventually she showered but went straight back to bed, mourning about another part of her body she had lost control of

She was pulled out of her thoughts by a call from Derek

"Hey.." She picked up the phone

"I'm on my way to Seattle, my patient died." Derek sighed

"Oh Der.." Meredith sighed, knowing this was awful but she just had no emotions left, she felt so numb

"I'll be there in a few hours, can you make sure the girls are home? I missed them so bad." He explained

"Of course." Meredith agreed, she really didn't wanna get up but she'd have to, she didn't wanna ask Derek to drive to his parents after a flight

"I love you, I'll see you in a bit." He said goodbye and hung up the phone

Meredith sighed, wiping away some tears. She pushed herself up and didn't even bother getting changed. She brushed her teeth and stared at herself in the mirror, quickly splashing some water onto her face

"Mom?" She called her mother

"Hey honey, is everything okay?" Carolyn asked, not expecting her daughter in law to call already

"I- I'm picking up the girls, is that okay?" Meredith asked

"Of course, is everything okay? I'll make sure they are ready." Carolyn promised

"Derek is on his way back, he wants to see the girls. I'm gonna come pick them up in a bit, I just- I will try to be fast."

"No need to rush, dear. Take your time." Carolyn said and they hung up

Meredith put her shoes on and her jacket, not moving very quickly but she did it. She got in her car, loading her chair in and she started to drive off

A while later she arrived at her parents' place. She took her time to get out as she was tired and still down from the news the day prior

"Mom? Dad?" She wheeled inside, after making it up the ramp

"Hey sweetie, mom is in the kitchen and the girls are in the garden." Christopher told her. "Can I get you some coffee?"

"I-" Meredith froze

"Just a cup of coffee, you got time. Derek's flight takes 6 hours, honey."

"Okay.." Meredith gave in, she just struggled at the thought of not being able to be honest with her parents

"Are you doing okay?" Christopher frowned, noticing something was off

"Sure, I'm fine." She nodded and wheeled outside to go say hi to her daughters

"Mama!" Charlotte was the first to spot Meredith, running towards her mom right away, slightly out of breath

"Mom!" Emma and Grace followed right away

"Hi girls, I'm here to pick you up, daddy's flying home right now." She explained

"So we gotta go home?" Emma asked

"Yeah, but you can play a little longer, I'm gonna drink some coffee with Nana and Poppa." Meredith explained

"I wanna come, mommy!" Charlotte muttered, clinging onto her mom

"Go ahead girls, I'm taking your sister inside." She kissed Grace and Emma's heads

"Oh hey, dear!" Carolyn saw Meredith as she wheeled inside, Charlotte tucking at her pants

"Hi mom! Thanks for taking care of them." Meredith said, fighting some tears that were threatening to fall

"Of course." Carolyn nodded, frowning as she looked at Meredith

"Come on, Charlie. Let's go to the couch for a bit." Meredith took her daughter with her, she didn't transfer but Charlotte tried to climb up her lap

"Here, I got some cookies for you." Carolyn tried to intervene, hoping to distract her granddaughter so she would stop trying to climb onto her mom's lap

Carolyn had noticed how Meredith had been leaning heavily against her backrest, she had been giving short pushes so the older woman assumed she was in discomfort

"Cookies!" Charlotte giggled and took one, but she climbed up her mom's lap

"Charlie-" Meredith winced

"Come here.." Carolyn scooped up the little girl

"It's fine mom, I just needed to sit a little better." Meredith said and fixed her legs

"She can sit with me, right Charlie? So you don't get everything dirty while eating your cookie."

"I want mommy!" Charlotte whimpered, trying to run off

"Monkey please-" Meredith pleaded, she was so tired, she felt so numb. She really wasn't in the mood for a tantrum

"Noooo!" Charlotte squirmed around

"Here you go, honey." Christopher walked towards Meredith with a cup of coffee before he went to his granddaughter, managing to distract her

"I- I'll take them home soon." Meredith said

"Let's go grab your bag." Carolyn lifted Charlotte as soon as the girl finished her cookie. She and her husband had seen something was wrong with Meredith

"What's been going on?" Christopher asked his daughter

"Nothing, I'm fine." Meredith quickly said

"Meredith.. I know better than taking your fines." Christopher walked up to her, taking a seat on the couch next to where she was sitting

"Dad.. Please.." Meredith whimpered

"Honey, do you wanna talk to me? Is everything really okay?" Christopher frowned, his worries growing

"I- I'll just-" Meredith muttered, she didn't know how to say this. "I need another surgery." She muttered, looking down to avoid her dad's eyes

"A surgery? On your spine?" Christopher asked, really worried and confused

"Not really.. I need a colostomy." She teared up, it was the first time she said this out loud

"Honey.. What? Since when do you know?"

"I saw my doctor yesterday.." Meredith admitted

"Have you told Derek, or anyone else?" Christopher grabbed her hand

Meredith shook her head, wiping her tears quickly

"You need to talk to him." Christopher rubbed her back

"I will. Once he's home and the girls are in bed, yes." She whispered sadly
