Alistair thought about what his father told him before responding. "I guess it would be for the best. Besides, it would give my new bride and I some time to get to know one another better. I wouldn't want my lovely bride to be shocked by anything. I shall wait a few days before Emmeline, and I make our way to the church and wed."
"I'm glad to see that you are coming to your senses when it comes to your bride's feelings," Addison said.
"I can be considerate towards others. I still don't understand why you have such little faith in me being considerate towards other people," Alistair said.
"Maybe it has to do with the act that you didn't wait very long before you decided to marry two of your other wives. After your first and wife all died, you wasted no time in marrying your whore, making her your third wife. Though you never did really tell us what you said to convince your whore wife to give up the Crump name and fortune. I mean yes you said you would pay for her to have a new life and everything. But I doubt things went as smoothly as you said they did. That and I didn't see a car waiting for her; nor did I see any of her bags being carried out of the manor," Addison said voicing his suspicions.
"Father, you told me to take care of Margaret with as little damage as I could, because you didn't want anybody in the town gossiping about our family; as well as have them drag our name through the mud, any more than they already have when they learned of my disgrace of a marriage. So, Margaret and I were on damage control trying to keep everything as discreet as possible. Besides, I don't want people to talk about Margaret, when I am taking on a new bride who deserves nothing but respect," Alistair said.
"Great. People are going to go around assuming that I'm a whore who steals husbands, so I can take them for my own. Do you think others will show me respect after you send your third wife away? I'm pretty sure people will think of our marriage as a joke. On top of that, everyone else will most likely whisper amongst themselves wondering when you will grow tired of me and send me away that way you may go and find my replacement," Emmeline snapped no longer able to keep control over her mouth.
"You don't get it, do you my dear? I'm never going to go and look for a replacement for you. You are the woman who is going to help continue the Crump bloodline for many generations to come. People will hear the last name Crump and figure out that they descend from one of the greatest bloodlines ever," Alistair explained.
"Father, may I please be excused? I feel as though I'm being suffocated by a selfish man who cares about himself and no one else," Emmeline said.
"Emmeline, that is no way to speak about your husband," Jakob said.
"Mr. Firestone, it's alright. I understand Emmeline is still a bit shocked about the sudden marriage agreement. But a bit of fresh air might do my wonderful bride some wonders. If you will excuse us," Alistair said while walking over and gently grabbing hold of Emmeline's arm, leading her away from the study.
"See Addison, you worry too much about your son not being able to take good care of my daughter," Jakob said.
"Don't take what I'm about to say the wrong way my friend, but I don't think you worry about what my son could do to your daughter. You don't know what my boy Alistair, is capable of. I have seen wickedness in his eyes. He's capable of causing great harm to your daughter if he really wanted to," Addison explained.
"Maybe my daughter can help save your son from his so-called wicked ways," Jakob said.
Oh my dearest friend. I can only hope that you are well aware of what you are signing your daughter up for. I hope for your daughter's sake that my son doesn't grow bored of her. If he does, then I worry about her safety. I fear that Alistair will grow bored of Emmeline, which will drive him to do something to cause her a lot of pain, Addison thought to himself as he silently prayed that Emmeline would be spared from Alistair's cruel abuse.
