It had nearly been three weeks. You sat in your room going over the newspaper article hopping for it to be lying. But no matter how many times you read it the title 'phantom Kills 16 people' would never change. You felt saddened when you thought about Erik. The two of you had been happy together. All the wonderful memories, the singing lessons late at night, the times you danced together, when he saved you from your own wedding. All of them distorted by the nagging fact that he faced the gallows for his crimes of love.
The media had loved this story and leapt at every chance to interview you playing the relived victim just like everyone wanted.
But not anymore. You didn't want to lose the only person that mattered to you . Now you were the one who would save the phantom from his fate.
--
You had managed to convince Robin enough so that he would allow you to visit the phantom one last time before his final demise. He accompanied you there to insure your safety, this was a bit of a inconvenience to you as it jeopardised your plan.
Once you steps foott inside the dark prison the smell of rooting food and sewage waste. You pitted Erik for having to endure this for the past three weeks. The shadowed moon let very few natural light in, thankfully a few candles lit your way. As you walked through the maze of corridors you soon found yourself in the bowls of the building. Several men were screaming in the distance, reaching out at through the bars as you passed. Every one here had been sentence to death and you almost felt sorry for them but you kept your mind focused on your goal.
Finally you arrived outside the cell you desired. Within it a figure sat in the corner apon a small blanket which would appear to be a bed.
"Erik?" You found yourself asking with a shrill voice almost not wanting words to form. The figure looked up and began to limp over to you, coming into the light you could clearly see that it was in deed the phantom. As pale and weak as he looked. You gasped slightly and had to hold back the tears. Reaching through the bars you gently cupping his face. Robin whispered something to one of the guards, you didn't care. That was until the same guard opened the cell door allowing you to go inside. You thanked him and quickly ran inside wrapping your arms around Erik embracing him in a loving hug. You didn't care about the burning eyes watching you closely.
"I'm going to get you out of here," you whispered into his chest making sure that no one could hear you. He looked down at you smiling softly. But his soft smile made your blood turn cold. It was like he didn't have faith in you at all and to be honest you really didn't have faith in yourself. After all what were you going to do? Create a magic door out of sparkles that lead to happiness? No. Maybe it was hopeless and the man you truly loved would die in front of you tomorrow?
You spent what seemed like an eternity within his protective arms. But it wasn't long enough. The piercing sound of Robins voice and a hand grabbing your arm pulling you away.
While walking back down the halls you didn't care anymore, you let the tears fall.
Not paying attention to anything you looked down at your feet until something grabbed you arm. You screamed as another hand reached out and grabbed you're hair. Before you knew it the two guards and Robin had come to your rescue. Forcefully removing the hands from you. However, more men joined into the frenzy. Reaching out trying to grab anything that they could reach. You stood there watching the event unfold as something cold was placed into your hands by another. You looked down and saw a key, but not just any key, it had the cell number which Erik was locked in engraved into the top. Putting what happened together you heard a voice whisper to you telling you to go. Of course you did. In the heat of the moment you ran to the phantom.
Your feet barely touched the ground as you made your way back down the maze, skidding to a halt outside the cell. A smile spread across your face as you look at the confused look upon Eriks face. Holding up the key to show him, he seemed to instantly understand.
After unlocking the door the two of you headed down the corridor in the opposite direction of Robin. You had no clue where you were going but having Eriks hand in yours as you led him through the twists and turns of the prisons labyrinth. Soon you found yourself at the bottom of some spiral staircase. You both seemed to agree without actually saying anything that you're only option was to go up.
