Liza was grateful for the advancements in technology which allowed her to purchase a condo in a quiet suburban area without any real, human contact. The same technology that allowed her to hire a moving company that packed and moved everything from her old apartment to the new condo. A house in a rural area would have been preferred, except for the fact that such a thing would leave her too far from the city to access the joys of grocery delivery and similar luxuries at a reasonable price.

Nonetheless, once she was inside her condo, with all the blinds shut and doors locked, she felt as though she could breathe again.

There was no Mitchell Pierce in her home. There was no airplane, no turbulence, no screaming, no shaking, no grating of metal, no screaming, no crying, no burning flesh or dead bodies or the sight of sweet, wonderful Tim with those empty, empty eyes—

Liza started crying, then screaming, rocking back and forth as she was assaulted by smells and sights and the horrifying truth that everything she once knew had been distorted so severely she had no hope of ever recognizing what was once her reality.

It had been taken from her. Just like Tim. Just like all those other innocent people.

Just like her sanity.
