Mirio stared down at the wide eyed girl, her mouth parted in shock. He couldn't believe it. Her face, once haggard and malnourished now full. Her bandage wrapped limbs no longer covered every piece of visible skin, no, now he could only see a few white wraps along her legs. It was like she was a brand new child

That wretched old brown dress now replaced. A bright yellow that glowed brighter than the sun itself adorned her body and Mirio swore it was only so bright because such a beautiful child wore it but then he noticed it. In her hands lay the large red fabric that he would wear across his shoulders with pride

She had kept it

Then he heard it, quietly, softly, no louder than a gasp

"H-He-Hero" the child called, voice no longer mauled with fear and desperation. She didn't say it between sobs and most importantly, for once, she wasn't apologizing

"Y-Yeah hi" he grinned, bright and warm, and something broke within her. The nerves which swallowed her alive settled and the dam shattered

Big tears slipped from her eyes, gently they cascaded, once after the other after the other. "Hero" she called again, the red cape slipping from her fingers as her feet stumbled forward, rushing towards him

He was here

Mirio crouched down and he felt the child tackle into his body, a gentle weight pressing into him as he caught her. "Yeah, Yeah I'm here" he could feel tears threatening to overwhelm his own eyes as he dropped the bouquet and stuffed toy behind her to wrap his arms around the child

"Okay" she sobbed "Hero okay"

"Yeah I'm okay, I'm okay" he whispered, patting the back of her head as she held onto him tight

"I-I" she stuttered, trying to get the words out but instead a sob wracked her body

"It's okay, shh, it's fine" he cooed and it felt unreal. Finally, it felt as though he actually succeeded. Before he knew they were safe, knew they were in the hospital but he never was truly at ease, no, not until now. He felt relief flood his body, that anxious shadow which hung over him the entire way here easing away

Pulling her face away from his shoulder, Mirio stared at her, hand wiping away tears that spilt down her cheeks and she looked at him in shock. His big bright grin still swept over his features, lighting up his whole face and she couldn't believe it

"H-Hero here" she mumbled, lips in a pout as she clutched onto his shoulders

"Yeah sweetie, I'm here" he brushed away one of her tears

"I- I scare no come back" the child confessed in a sob, letting him hold her as her tiny frame cried. "I scare go way, but here now, hero here" she babbled, sniffling between every word, trying to hold back cries that only prevailed. She didn't cry out of fear, no for once it wasn't because her body was wracked in pain, for once it wasn't because she was scared. No, tears of relief streamed down, one after the other, finally tears of happiness bubbled out. Inexplicable joy emanated within her and she couldn't contain it as she cried, wailing for what she longed for, for what she needed
