Kathryn wonders if people who name boats should have rights. Why do they all have maritime themes? Is it some unspoken rule? Because Coastal Venture sounds dumb as hell.
She stares at the ceiling of her very locked room. Rafe got her clothes from Rose, that she didn't touch. She can and will stink up this room if that's the only act of rebellion she can have, she'll gladly take it.
But he hasn't been seen since he brought her here this morning.
She wonders if the weight of what he'd done caught up to him in the meantime, but she doubts it. That's the thing, she knows Rafe. She knows that he'll try to justify any and all of his actions, blame them on something or someone else to save his own skin. They are opposite on that matter. Rafe probably blamed his dad for that night. Kathryn still blamed herself.
But it also left Kathryn with a significant advantage. He would try to be nice to her, to be forgiven – like she could offer him that. If she hasn't forgiven herself, she sure as shit isn't going to forgive him. She'll take that grudge to her deathbed.
Rafe would try to play nice, yes. He'll walk into the room and make goo-goo eyes at his favourite toy, ignoring the fact that he ripped out and taped the head back on again.
Kathryn wouldn't play nice.
This is her one chance to get out of here before the Pogues decide to barge in guns blazing and bombs exploding. By Pogues she means her boyfriend. By boyfriend she means the guy who'll be thrown in jail for murder, by the looks of things.
Despite all the convincing she'll probably have to do when he does come get her, telling him not to put a bullet between Rafe's eyes... The thought does keep her going.
She sits up on the bed when the door unlocks and opens and he walks in, with a significant lack of bullet wound between his eyes. She immediately stiffens, fear rushing into her body as second nature. There was no Pope to protect now, she could put herself in danger as much as she wanted to. And if bad mouthing Rafe meant that, well, she really wanted to.
"You're really fucking stupid, I hope you know that. You're aware that my uncle is a police officer?"
Rafe starts to pace. For someone who was so sure of himself the day before, it was pitiful at best. But if it was either that or the murderer, she'll take the kicked dog look... for now.
