4 months later

"Rudraksh" a very familiar voice fell on my ears and I didn't turn back. A smile made its way on my lips when I felt her soft arms around my shoulders and circle around my neck as she hugged me from back

I took Samaira's hand in mine and kissed her palm. A habit of mine I find myself doing often

"Letter open Kiya?" She asked while looking at the portrait in front of us.

John Harper gave me this portrait of my Maa sa with a letter that said "open it on your birthday"

And today it is.

Finally after so many years of struggle to find the truth behind that one night. I finally feel at ease after knowing that her criminals received their punishment

Aarav Rajput was currently undergoing psychiatric treatment when he started shouting at nights saying that his wife loved him and he can still see her

It's been four months since Samaira's dad, Mr. Arnav Rajput has taken over the control of palace affairs. When Samaira told him all the truth for the first time in my life he came and hugged me. A fatherly hug.

The one I never received

And now he is my papa as well.

"Can you read it to me, please?" I said to her

"Hum kaise...vo kuch personal hoga toh?" She's so cute. Look maa, I got the bestest wife for me, you would've adored her.

"Humara personal bhi aap hi hai aur official bhi aap hi hai, Biwi" I said rubbing the tip of my nose to hers

She smiled, a deep shade of red masking her cheeks.

She went near the table and grabbed the letter kept on it

"Ready?" She asked

"Ready" I assured

Dear Rudi Boy,

This is your Ohn uncle, because you never pronounce the letter J in your childhood when you said my name.

When you requested me those little eyes of yours to make a portrait of your mother. I hesitated a bit.

But when you told me the reason, I knew there and then that I was going to do it, nevertheless

But truth to be told, I've never seen your mother smiling. I had drawn the entire portrait but her smile was something I couldn't get my mind into.

But, today when she came and told me that she knew about my portrait, I almost felt giving up my life. Because I thought she must've told the royals about it now!

But she surprised me by smiling and saying to complete it and gift it to you on your birthday. She even told me to write you a message.

It was for the first time I saw her smile right in front of my eyes. And you were right. It's infectious.

I gently drew her smile. So now it's complete.

But what I saw that night. I couldn't help but draw her pain. It was something she felt stronger than love.

Rudi boy, trust your Ohn uncle with this one.

Grab a lighter and burn the portrait

There is your birthday present, Rudi boy!

Happiest birthday,
Your Ohn uncle

I grabbed the lighter from the drawer and clicked it open looking at the flame

"Are you sure, Rudra?" Samaira said

"I trust ohn uncle" she laughed at my words as I light up my mother's sad portrait

A gasp left our mouth as we saw another portrait coming in our vision as the flames of fire spread across the upper one

And there it is!

She is looking so lively in this one. Like an angel. Her lips are wide spread into a breathtaking smile

"She's beautiful"

"Of course! She is, Maa sa kiski hai? Samaira laughed at my words as I witnessed a tear drop from her eye but who was I to stop her when my tears had already made their way till my cheeks

"How did he do this? It's magical!" Samaira exclaimed

"He's an artist. One can never imagine their ways of art" my eyes couldn't leave the portrait. It felt so mesmerizing.

"Look, there's a note" Samaira pointed at a small envelope tucked around the corner of the canvas

The paper looked old and covered with dust

I opened it

As my eyes read the first word, my tears bursted out

Rudra, mere bete
Tumhe apni Maa sa se bohot shikayat hai na? Ki hum haste nahi. Toh ye lo. Iss tasveer mai hum humesha haste rahenge. Hum aapse bohot pyaar karte hai Rudraksh, kabhi apne aap ko akela mat samjna. Maa sa humesha aapke saath hai. Apke pass hai

Janam din ki khub saari bhadhiya Mere Rajkumar

Aapki Maa sa

And I just sat there holding the letter in one hand close to my heart and holding Samaira's hand in another, as I cried over her shoulder and her portrait just stared back at us with finally a smile on her face
